Has anyone been able to grow feijoa in south FL?

I want to grow feijoa in the ground in south fl but I read in a few places that they need chill hours to have quality fruit. Is this true?

I couldn't get 'em to grow in Tampa zone 9b.  I don't think they liked the heat.

So, maybe there are some cultivars that will do well here with all the heat but I don't know which ones they are.

That's a great looking Pineapple Guava Madfarm! I used to have a very nice looking tree that bloomed every year but never fruited, I'm in zone 9b. I planted it 16 years ago and last year it started dying and in a few weeks completely turned brown and died.

I believe they need appx 100 chilling hours in the winter at least 45° to get them to fruit?

About 2 1/2 years ago I bought a few bushes, some were seedlings and a couple of dwarf varieties from Lowe's, mine hasn't bloomed yet I'm hoping next year I will get some flowers and hopefully some fruits?? I have never seen any named varieties for sale here and I've been looking for at least 15 years, Lowes was the only one I ever saw with a dwarf variety (Bambina).

Has yours ever bloomed and fruited? Good Luck!

MadFarm the tree looks nice but no pictures of fruit. Has your tree ever fruited. That is the question. I have never seen them fruit in south FL

I tried them years ago here in Miami (near the Turnpike). I had two trees that got 10+ ft tall. One flower in 15 years! Petals were delicious! At the Fruit and Spice Park, which gets about 10F colder than my location, they do get flowers but I'm not sure about fruit.

100s of blooms here in central Florida, but no fruit. Not sure if it was a lack of cross pollination or a lack of pollen viability due to heat. We finally threw the trees out. I have seen bushes that set fruit fine in Pensacola, by the way. I'm not sure how far south they set reliably, but my guess would be that it is somewhere between Gainesville and Ocala based on anecdotal reports.
