Garcinia ID ~ Lemon drop kind
« on: February 02, 2023, 10:10:57 AM »
A friend gave a couple fruits without ID. They are slightly fuzzy and bigger than any Lemon Drop mangosteen I tried before.
Also not nearly as sour. Not very sour at all in fact.
It was so big I thought it was maybe an Abiurana until I cracked it open while driving for a snack and was pleasantly surprised.
See here pictured next to some lilikoi and canistel.

Which one? G. Cowa that ken sells?
This fruit was bigger than some Auchacharu I seen and not as sour as Lemon drops.
I know fff has the “improved” lemon drop.
I dunno. It wasn’t in a collector’s yard and I havent seen the tree in person yet.

Frankie's garcinia?

I feel like the rind matches up really well based on this picture, as well as the taste report matches what I've heard about frankies

Nice. Thank you for looking into it !
Looks like it. I’ll have to find the botanical name now.

I don’t think there’s a Latin name, I’ve heard that it’s a cross between intermedia and something else? Might be wrong but I don’t know if there is a specific species name

it just showed up as a fruit on Frankie’s nursery in Hawaii? I think

I come to find many of the plantings in this yard came from Steve Starnes nursery.
Who does Steve Starnes, Frankie’s , Oscar fruitbugga’z all source from for 30 years?
The one and only humble fruit legend that people just type his initials for fear of sharing the link too many times, as he stopped taking new customers . JW , and not the shun you , we are the only chosen one’s JW.
