Tropical Fruit Discussion / Alphonso on double rootstock updates
« on: April 10, 2015, 05:19:19 PM »
This post is to keep track on progress of this tree that I started from scratch. Currently it's pushing new growth. I removed the flowers about a month ago. Usually, one would wait till fruit are about pea size to remove the flowers. I did not want to waste the time and energy of the tree so I cut it off when the flowers stop growing in size. To prevent it from blooming again, I watered it two to three times a week with diluted fish emulsion. Also, the night time temps was on my side, it didn't dip below in the 50's

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Which looks better?
« on: April 18, 2013, 08:59:09 PM »
Hello people, been really depressed for the last couple of days over the lost of my pickering mango. So, I'm planning to get a Valencia Pride to take the place where my pickering mango use to be. I was given the choice of two to choose from. They both look very good to me. Which one would you choose? VP1 or Vp2? Your opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Over watering Longan ?
« on: July 30, 2012, 10:02:17 AM »
Can this cause the developing fruit to crack? My tree is in the ground. I deep water every two to three days. A few dime size fruit started to crack. Is this too much water, or not enough water? Thanks.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Largest Airlayer Lychee
« on: July 27, 2012, 01:33:39 AM »
Hi all, just wanted to shared pictures of my new lychee airlayer (variety is unknown). A few months back, I meet a nice couple that lives out in Cerritos that owns a really big tree and they agreed to let me airlayer their tree for 2 bills (What a deal!!!). I put on the airlayer on 4/9 and i just chopped it yesterday 7/25. This is the most hugemongous airlayer I've ever done. I forgot the take picture of the root ball (pretty good size root ball with lots of fiberous roots). It's about 8 to 9 feet tall with a nice fat trunk. Trimmed most of the leaves and some taller branches off. It's now potted in a 3 gallon and placed in a 15 gallon to help support the tree from falling. What do you guys think?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Over 60 grafts
« on: July 20, 2012, 01:25:57 AM »
Hi folks,

Grafts were all done in one day. This is the most extreme for me. Today was freaking hot too! Got sunburn on my neck, arms and the back of my hands. There's about 15 cultivars grafted today on my aunt's unknown and unproductive tree.
Scions were ordered from Oscar(Thanks!). The scions were long enough to separate into two pieces. My grafting skills about fifty percent. I'm just hoping at least one of each cultivar takes.
