Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Germinating black sapote (D. digyna)?

I have had a high rate of success just tossing them in a bag of moist vermiculite or peat and planting them in the same mix I use for Jaboticaba, (80% peat 20% perlite.) Just keep them moist and warm and they germinate very quickly, usually within a few weeks or less.

Was able to text Jabba on Tuesday, he and his wife are ok. Like most of us in the area, phone and internet are very poor or non-existent. We got power back in my neighborhood a couple days ago and internet a few hours ago. The damage this evil storm caused is astronomical, I am very surprised the number of casualties is not much higher.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Grumichama flowering!
« on: April 11, 2021, 02:21:24 AM »
I usually begin watering my grumichama every other day in mid February before it begins to flower depending on current weather conditions here. This year I didn't start till March because of some cold fronts. I increase watering to almost every day(5/6 a week) after fruit set. My tree is 10-12 feet tall now, loaded with fruit, and probably 95-99% fruit set. I often get a second light bloom in July -0% fruit set, and sometimes a third in late august/ early September 3 fruit total out of dozens of blooms over the course of a few years. I have never seen any pollinators working the flowers, I think they are pollinated by the wind here, whether airborne or the flowers rubbing together in the wind. If you are reading this and not growing it, you probably should be.

M. Vexator does not need cross pollination to fruit, I have one flowering tree and it produces lots of fruit.

Not sure about so jabos, but my grimmal has a sucker growing off of an exposed root. I also had a sabara sucker 5 or 6 years ago but it never grew back after plucking it.

Looks a little like grumichama.

I had a longan that went from a 3 gallon directly to a 15 gallon. It produced every year for 3 years till I gave it away. After 3 years it still wasn't root bound.

That's not a leech, I think it's called a New Guinea flatworm
