Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Marang+ Willughbeia anguistifolia

Hi palologrower, I dont trust shipping seeds right now to WA (we're supposed to get 3inches of snow this weekend) but if you manage to grow one of the seeds out, I would happily buy one off you once the weather warms up.

2
ah jeez just pure outside warhead. I'll try making some jelly or ice cream and maybe we'll arrive at a sweet use for them.

3
do you like the taste? what do you do with the fruit? I have one from FFF that just started fruiting.

Carolyn do you have 2 trees? Do you hand cross pollenate? I really want to get cacao in my greenhouse but dont know if I'd have space for 2.

I have one I picked up from sowexotic (where it is marked self-fertile) Hopefully, they are, otherwise I'll ask for some bud wood from whoever has the opposite gender of my tree! It has been incredibly slow growing for me up here. Curious to see if it'll hit the 4 year seed to fruit mark they mentioned.

6
Finished building my greenhouse last week! We just hit 32 last night :| I wasn't ready for summer to end.
Lovely greenhouse you've got up there.

7
This is one I've been struggling with too. I've bought probably 10 seeds across 2 years, they always sprout, do well, then shed leaves and die. I have one left that looks like your straggler. a few leaves on a twig. If I lived closer I'd come pick it up, but I don't think it would survive a trip to my farm up north  :P

8
If only I lived closer I would come check it out! Always jealous of the big low zone tropical set ups.

One green world in Portland has some really great maypop varieties. I got a bluePop from them last year, it flowered a bunch but didn't set fruit.

I also recommend https://www.montosogardens.com/online_store/
I bought fruit from both his Herrania types, that way I could sample them and toss the fresh seeds in the ground. Great seller and responsive.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Male and female marula
« on: July 14, 2023, 08:04:26 PM »

I try to only keep one of each kind of tree, to save space, but then they look at me with these pleading little plant eyes... so I have a papaya forest, a marula forest, and a guava forest.

Me too, when I get seeds I think I'll thin them out, but then they all just look at me and say how 'strong we're growing, let us stay around just a little longer'. Now I have a papaya forest, a chanar forest and a toadtree forest. Really hoping chañar and toadtree fruit actually tastes good. ! (Marula too.) So many trees gambling on taste.

I have the bushest 1 year old seedling ever. So I'll assume its a male, its going crazy right now, it defoliated in the winter but its nothing but leaves and growth now... I'll come back here in a year or two for some scion female wood from a flowering tree and offer up some male scions :)

pm sent. 40$ is a great price

Super slow grower for me as well. Planted mine last year, and both are looking like they might flush out some leaves. They were trying earlier but I think the transition between greenhouse and outside stopped them

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: 🥭Mangos for sale 🥭
« on: June 13, 2023, 05:06:42 PM »
Received my mangos all the way up here in Washington. Shipped Saturday, arrived Tuesday. All smell great and almost all look great. Unfortunately, I think USPS decided to throw the box the entire way here so despite the great packing some were bruised. But not Franks fault ! Will order again once I eat all these.

Want to say same here in PNW. My cherry trees were loaded with flowers and even the beginning of fruit set but a heat wave in the 90s followed by 2 rainy days destroyed every single one. I can go out and pick off wilted green cherry starts but nothing will stay on the trees. . . maybe next year.

18
i got mine from 9waters too. Its 2 years old so maybe next year I'll get some flowers.

19
exciting to hear they taste good. Did yours set fruit with just one or do you have multiple? I only have one, and I a little worried about the Eugenia low fruit set with only one plant.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Transitioning indoor trees outside
« on: April 20, 2023, 11:09:44 AM »
I was the fool who put his plants outside at the first sunny day in April. I put them in light shade but then it dropped to 36 and started snowing, and now it hasn't stopped raining and its been super windy.
Surinam Cherry - Burnt and dropped all leaves - brough them back into the greenhouse and they started flushing out again. I left 2 out as an experiment to see if they can handle it. They were all ~1yo
Chanar - Took several out and they all lost their leaves. I left them out to test if they are cold hardy. I actually left 2 out all winter and we got into the teens with multiple snow days. Hoping they survive. IF they do I'll put one in the ground to test further
Superior lemon drop - Put 2 out with the surinams, woke up with snow in their pots. They turned brown, put them back in the greenhouse and we'll see what happens.
Ziricote - Same story as above. Outside because I saw sun. All the leaves turned brown except the bottom 4 which are still greenish. Also got some snow in the pot. Hoping it bounces back as well.
Honestly pretty hopeful Chanar can stay out year round as they get older. I'm trying to find which are more cold hardy so I can take them out earlier since the greenhouse is always so packed. As others said, I need to be more careful with the sun exposure.

I also just planted some Strychnos spinosa seeds I picked up from Jibril on etsy. If they germinate, I'll have some as well.

Quick feedback for "If you were successful in reviving trees from feb order, what varieties are growing?" Can you change it to multiple choice? I had none survive but currently it only lets you select one.
