Anyone else growing artocarpus nanchuanensis?
« on: February 08, 2016, 09:30:24 AM »
I bought a couple of little one inch seedlings from Oscar a while back. Curious if anyone else has some growing? Mine seem to be very cold hardy. The seedling in the pic saw down to 28 degrees with only some very minor leaf damage. My large jackfruit lost all of its leaves in the upper third of the canopy so these nanchuanensis are defininity more cold hardy than the jacks. I did throw a sheet over this seedling but I didn't provide any supplemental heating. I still have not been able to find much info on these trees. So far, from the one decent picture I have found, it looks like they are similar to Kwai muk but larger.

I received some china seeds in October, only one germinated, however as I am in the summer, it seems to grow very quickly.

That seeding is just from this October? That's pretty impressive growth. I had mine potted for a year and it didn't grow much. It seems to be taking off a little better now that it is in the ground. I'm hoping to graft it to some Kwai muk seedlings at some point.

Yes, October 2015, planted the seeds at 02, I have this plant and one that I received in June, This second I planted in situ.

I believe that it is nearest the Lakoocha than Muk Kwai.
Lakoochas also develop very quickly here on the farm.

I use a fertilizer the basis of manure and plenty of water, Artocarpus usually love water, organic matter and heat.

Very interesting. Ask the person who sold you seeds or seedlings how the fruit tastes.
Of course it is natural that the sellers usually 'hype' the quality, taste, fast growth, early fruiting and so on. Good luck. Triphal
