WTB: Passion Fruit Ligularis/Sweet Granadilla

Hello! I was looking for a good passion fruit variety to grow in our dorm at school over the winter and then have it fruit during the summer. I did this last year with a purple possum and it did extremely well and is currently in a 15 gallon whiskey barrel in my backyard.

I was looking for a good Ligularis plant (orange fruit, white pulp, sweet/not tart) because they seem really neat, but I'm open to consider different varieties. It all depends on taste and how well it might do up here in Ohio. Tropical yellow does very well, too, I got seedlings to grow and fruit their first summer (not ripe in time, tho delayed because they were self sterile). The only thing I don't really like about the Ligularis is its heart shaped leaves, but I think I'd get over it (I just adore the normal 3 lobed leaves).

I'm looking for either a tc, or a decent sized starter plant (1-2 ft plant/rooted cutting, or a really big seedling). I actually believe Ligularis might do really well in Ohio, I'm not sure. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for a variety I'd love to hear them. Being self fertile is pretty important, too tho.

I have passiflora v. flavicarpa seedling, it produces large fruits that are sweet and tart.

I have one, mine seems to be self sterile, but I don't know if yours is. I think I'm going to wait for a Ligularis. Can you describe your flavicarpa variety to me, though? I remember liking purple a lot more because the yellows I had seemed way more sour.

I preferred it to the purple this is my favorite along with red rover, they both are bigger and have way more juice too. They are all self fertile , but you are likely to get more fruit if you grow multiple trees .

I had a ligularis and the darn thing barely grew for me. It looked good the day I got it from the nursery and slowly declined over the year. I think it is finally dead. I am not sure what it wanted.

I've heard others have had issues with it as well. I wonder if it actually prefers more shade during the day, a slightly cooler night temp, more humidity, or something. Nonetheless I will definitely drop the 50 bucks to see if it will do well in this state lol

I have two ligularis that were grown from seed 3-4 years ago. They have not flowered. They are very difficult to grow. I am in Southern California coast and I am hoping they flower next year. Not sure I would try to grow ligularis in Ohio.

I do wonder what on earth they require that's different. I read somewhere that they do very well with some shade, but I have no idea. I'm gonna give it a shot tbh.

I have a plant that seemed stunted in a large pot growing in one of the warmest and sunniest spots in my yard.  Moved it to shade after a year under a persimmon tree and now is growing more vigorously climbing the tree.  Maybe needs cool roots, and will climb for sun when ready.
