Hey All,

Here is a great resource from a recent research symposium out of UF: https://australianlimes.ifas.ufl.edu/

Great information and videos/talks - you can also see the two new varieties recently released (UF SunLime & UF RedLime)

Citrus General Discussion / Leaf Cupping & Magnesium Question
« on: November 29, 2021, 02:17:00 PM »
Howdy All,

I have two questions for the group with pictures attached. Any and all comments are welcomed!

1) I have a potted yuzu that has severe cupping of its latest foliage. The leaves/plant seems very healthy otherwise and is about to start a new flush. Has anyone else dealt with this? I could not find much info on this specific downward cupping of citrus leaves elsewhere - the little I did find had people hypothesizing under watering being the issue. However I do not think that is an issue for my plant.

2) My potted NZL started showing signs of what I thought to be Mg deficiency and I threw a large pinch of MgSO4 at the base of the plant and have watered as usual for 7 days now. How quickly should I be noticing a difference in the foliage if it is indeed a Mg problem? As of yet there hasn't been noticeable change. Looking at the diagnosis resources online, boron toxicity matches the appearance of the problem but that seems quite niche for a recently potted plant (3.5 months). The plant is in a flush and otherwise seems to be putting out growth at a steady pace - to note, new leaves at top of plant are showing signs of the same chlorosis but new leaves on lower branch do not show any signs of problem.

Again, any opinions are greatly welcomed!

Thanks,

Citrus General Discussion / Video: Old Italian Potted Citrus Soil Change
« on: November 15, 2021, 09:32:10 AM »
I can't seem to find the post now but I remember a thread asking about how the old Italian container citrus' were kept potted for so long. Here is a video I stumbled across that seems to show the method some of the users answered/hypothesized. I can't understand Italian but you get the jist - its very straightforward.

Side note - is that one of the Medici citrus plants? The pot appears to have their insignia

If anyone has these and is open to selling some twigs let me know!

Citrus General Discussion / Yuzu Leaf Diagnosis - Hypopigmentation?
« on: September 22, 2021, 11:51:38 AM »
Hey All,

I have a young Yuzu that I recently brought indoors for the winter and I am noticing some yellow spots developing on the leaves (pics below). My thoughts are either a reaction to being moved indoors under new light or a nutrient deficiency. Let me know if y'all want more pics or info.

Any and all advice/thoughts about what could be going on are welcomed!

Thanks

Howdy

I'm fortunate to live around many native wild groves of paw paw and want to offer up seeds to anyone interested. I will be saving seeds from fruit I forage this season and am happy to send them out to anyone interested as I go. PM if you're interested

Citrus General Discussion / Cutting Diagnosis
« on: August 23, 2021, 07:26:51 AM »
Hola everyone,

I received some Sanbokan lemon cuttings (questionable quality) and stuck a few in for rooting. After 4 days, three of them looked like this (pictures).

Is this mold/fungus? Or maybe some sort of small insect? I could have sworn one had fuzzy mycelium hairs on it but after handling, they aren't there.

Any guesses or thoughts would be appreciated!

For the record, I quarantined those cuttings and washed the rest of the cuttings around them with a dilute H2O2 soln followed by careful application of horticultural oil.

Thanks!

Citrus General Discussion / Grafting Question
« on: August 21, 2021, 11:23:27 AM »
Hey All,

I'm back looking for advice again!

I have 3x USD 942 rootstalk plants (from Madison Citrus - I really recommend them) that are a little over 3ft tall

They are fairly uniform with all having about a 6mm diameter at 10in up from pot (wooded bark) and 4mm diameter on newer growth (green bark).

For these, I have scions that are 1-2mm diameter, ~4-6in long (think CCPP budwood samples size). My first question: where would be best to graft on the rootstalk? Graft towards the end on the new growth or cut the majority of the rootstock off and graft further down on the woody part?

My second question: what grafting methods do y'all recommend (specifically for this situation)? I have been practicing and was planning to do a modified cleft graft like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjNYr_O5NzQ&list=LL&index=4&t=397s&ab_channel=JSacadura
But I am wondering if I should try another method that can attach two small scions onto the larger rootstock.

Any and all advice is welcomed!

THANKS

Citrus General Discussion / Preventative Care
« on: August 10, 2021, 08:44:48 AM »
Heyo!

I am new to growing citrus but have some experience growing exotic plants/trees - I know all too well the number of things that can attack young and old plants. With that, I want to start growing my citrus off the right way and get ahead of the issues. What is the best disease/pest preventative care regiment for citrus (esp. young plants)?

I'd love some formal publications on the topic but any and all advice is welcomed

Thank You!

Citrus General Discussion / Scion v. Budwood v. Cutting
« on: August 09, 2021, 09:17:26 AM »
Hello All!

New to the community and am having a hard time discerning between these. I know what each is used for but, taking a step back, what is the difference between the plant specimens themselves? Furthermore, as they seem to all be fairly similar, can all be used for rooting? Bud grafting? Traditional grafting?

Thanks!
