wax jambu

(1/1)

buddy roo:
Hi All, I have a rather small Black Pearl Wax Jambu that has been fruiting in my front yard for the last 3 years, however I have never seen a seed, any ideas as to why ?

Epiphyte:
no cross-pollination?  when my variegated wax jambu bloomed i pollinated every flower with pollen from a black diamond wax jambu.  every fruit from the variegated wax jambu had at least 2 seeds in it.  one thing to keep in mind if and when you get seeds, is that they desiccate at an alarming rate.  i think within 3 days of room conditions they will shrivel up.  i kept my variegated seeds in water that i changed each day for 3 days while waiting for some other seeds so i could sow them together as a batch.  when i sowed the variegated seeds they were already starting to germinate.  no obvious shoots emerging yet from the soil but i'm excited to see if any seedlings are variegated.  hope it's not like the variegated calamansi, variegated kumquat, and variegated chilean guava, where 100% of the seedlings were albino and then dead.

Lucifermonkey:
Wax jambu are super easy to air layer if you are looking to propagate. 😃👍
