Just confirming, after a few more Dreams this is certainly the best of the bunch.
Calastro is great and firm, it just lacks the balance I enjoy in most fruits.
I have a good bit coming in and will be enjoying them over the next month.

Now I'm just waiting to taste the premium AU atemoyas, Hoping to try Hilary White in a year or two

Can't really speak to the AP since its not the commonly grown here.
The bud wood was sold to me as arka sahan, but its doesn't seem to be that either, on another thread a few other growers chimed in and said it was probably AP.
Either way, the fruit isn't great, trying to top work it now


The other two are spot on.
Finally has a prime Dream and it certainly deserves all the hype it gets from the Florida annona growers.

Another possibility we see is they may never flower in that region.
In Florida we've been seeing some of our old varieties here not producing as much due to three warmer winters

I was growing Hawaiian pinkmamoth but it was on pond apple stock and never did great. I grafted some on cherimoya and those were distributed around here a little hopefully someone can report in.
I'm more looking forward to the HW and PP

Guava is intensely sweet and guava-y.
It's not my cup if tea but I know some who but it up there.
Maya is a classic flavor mango, been on my want to try list.
I have aromanis, which is supposed to be the same as harumanis, it's Indochinese in flavor but not super flavorful

Ones I've grown and tasted
Gefner is still one of the tops for me. Fruits easily and taste great
African Pride is not great, too many seeds but fruits pretty easily
Super African Pride AKA Calastro is really good, super sweet, firm, and sets fruit without hand pollinations, The only problem is the lack of tart.
Dream fruits easily but I was only able to taste two runts last year but everyone one i know who grows this says its good.
Tropic Sun looks almost identical to a sugar apple but it tastes like a great atemoya, fruits Well, I find the season to be a little earlier than i want. A little better in flavor than Calastro due to the balance.

Hey guys I've been really into atemoyas the last couple years and I've been trialing a few to see how they work in South East Florida.
Considering we had recent influx of new varieties if anyone has some experience growing them here please share you findings

I would assume Duncan works well.

I found a lot of the anthracnose resistance varieties experience terrible post-harvest fungal issues. I'm 15 miles from the coast but all developed land on the way.
I had a lot fewer problems when my trees were smaller, I guess the airflow and sunlight really helped.

Depending on your disease pressure I would check in on the growers in Loxahatchee and Southwest Ranches FL.

I have pretty substantial disease issues here but nothing compared to those guys, (I never get around to spraying copper though)

This does look like G. dulcis, though G. xanthochymus is very similar

I use 0-0-50 which i think is potassium sulfate on my mature mango trees
I can't find a 0-0-22 around me in 50 lbs bags.

Most of the new world garcinias do well in South Florida
It seems like G. acuminata was a little cold sensitive though.

Since the old world ones are more likely to be dioecious I've kinda shied away.
I am growing dulcis though, those trees are 8 ft now, hoping for some flowers any day now

@op last I checked Achachairu doesn't have a species name but G. humilis is commonly thrown around.
People also just call it Bolivian mangosteen.
The first time I heard of achacha was from AUS marketing and that name seems to be used widely used as any other name

Curried mango is good but I suspect the fibrous mangos are better to use in this situation.
I guess that is what gives it its texture.
When cooking green fiberless mangos (only did it two times) you seem to end up with a sauce.

Also just a word of wisdom
Taste the skin before cooking, SE Asian mango skin (I tried CAC and NDM) was pretty bitter and I ruined a whole batch of trini-style red pickles
