Hi all, I have some grafted Painter Cherilata plants for sale.  This is a very vigorous growing tree.  It is cold hardy and disease free.
For me in Long Beach it is self polinating.  The fruit is a beautiful red color with low seed count.  These are grafted onto Cherimoya rootstock.  I only have one plant in a 4"x10" pot that I can ship.  The rest are local pickup only from Long Beach California.  4"x10" and 1 gallon plants cost $70.  The five gallon plants cost $100.

Thanks,
Bill

Thanks for the advice guys.  I will just keep testing it and remove from the tree when it falls into my hand.  I don't get a lot of heat, so I will leave it on the tree as long as possible to let it sweeten up.

I have three left. Two Dongkui and one Anhai Soft Silk. They are bigger now. Updated pictures below.

That’s the question. When do I know to pick the fruit from the tree?  I have my first and only fruit ripening on the tree.

It looks like I possibly have some fruit holding. Hopefully they don’t drop.

Yes, they look like male. Do you have anymore flowers?  On my tree different branches will have different sexes of flowers. I mean each branch that comes off the main trunk. At least that is my experience with my limited number of flowers.

Interesting, so I knew that trees could change sex. But I didn’t know that sometimes bi sex trees can be sterile. So what you are saying is that sometimes on bi sex trees (is there a better name for this?) the male pollen is sterile?  If so on bi sex trees are the female flowers sometimes sterile?  These garcinia trees are weird!

From looking at pictures in other Luc's Garcinia threads I believe that the flower pictured in photo one is a male.  The flower in photos 2 and 3 is different.  So it must be either female or hermaphrodite.  To my novice eye it looks to have both male and female parts.  So I'm thinking it is hermaphrodite?

I know there are people on here that can tell me what it is.  This thread just isn't getting enough traffic, I guess.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Variegated Banana

Beautiful plant!  Congratulations on fruiting it.  I grow both AeAe and Variegated Florida.  Do you know which one this is?  I'm sure with all your heat they grow like weeds!

Yes, the first picture is of Buddha Belly.  It tastes great with a soft fluffy texture compare to most sugarcane.  The problem is cleaning off the skin to eat it.  That is difficult to do, due to the bulging of the cane.  It is a beautiful plant.

Is the first picture a male and the last two photos are a female?

Bill

Two flowers opened. Are these female?

How about a flavor report?!?

I should also say that VDN is the most cold hardy variety of variegated banana that I grow.  It has survived outside for five years.  I get 300-500 hours of chill each winter.  My low usually only about 40, but I have gotten as low as 29 degrees F.  These are more difficult to grow than regular Dwarf Namwa, but easy for a variegated banana.  Just keep the soil dry during winter.

I will have some VDN plants that I can ship available soon.

I have some Variegated Dwarf Namwa (VDN) banana plants for sale.  VDN is a strange plant.  The variegation is very inconsistent.  It produces variegated and non variegated pups.  I would say about 25-50% of the pups are variegated.  The other pups aren't variegated but they can produce variegated pups.  The plants that are variegated can and will have changing intensity of the variegation.  Depending on the season the variegation can be very striking or very bland.  The variegation is not permanent.  I have had some plants start small with variegation and then lose the variegation when they get bigger.  So, these plants can and should produce variegated pups, but no guarantees.  Here are some pictures of how good these plants have the potential to look.

I have this three gallon VDN for sale. It is about three feet tall not including the pot. It currently is showing no variegation. $80 local pick up only.

Here are some pictures of the whole tree. It’s hard to get a good picture of it. And I also found a couple more flowers!  Hopefully we his tree is hermaphrodite.

Here is a picture of the one flower.

It's been a while since I updated this post.  My tree is now about ten feet tall.  The trunk is about two inches thick.  And I finally have a flower!  The flower hasn't opened yet, so I don't know what sex it is.  I don't see any other flowers on it but maybe some more will show up this summer.

Hi all, I need about 50 cherimoya seeds.  Anyone have some for sale?  I want to make sure they are Cherimoya and not Atemoya or some other cross.

Thanks,

Hi All, I have some Yangmei seedlings for sale.  I have seedlings of Anhai Soft Silk and Dongkui.  They cost $60 each, or three for $160, or four for $200.  These are seedlings so the fruit will be different from the parents, but you can request which variety you would like.  Shipping is about $12 for two plants and $16 for four plants.  I ship on Mondays and Tuesdays.  Message me your full address and I can give you a real shipping quote.  I accept Paypal and Venmo as payment.

Thanks,
Bill
