Spring Rain on the Way for South Florida?
« on: April 06, 2023, 02:53:28 PM »
If you look at the 10-day forecast, it shows rain on the way starting Sunday.  Hopefully this has a positive impact on mango retention for mangos that are still developing towards May/June ripening.  Any that are already being harvested are bound to suffer some flavor/brix loss.  What do you think?

We've gotten some downpours here.  Dying St. Augustine grass has come back to life.

Enough rain today and last night for flooding to start in the city. My yard definitely needed it.

Between sunday night and monday, we got dumped on out here in Loxahatchee. The forecast says plenty more on the way so I took the day off work to plant trees.

We got a couple of good soakings here and even though the swale was full last night, it was dry this morning... the  soil was thirsty.

Got a good rain this past Sunday, hoping for more tomorrow. Unfortunately, having quite a bit of wind, which is taking its toll on the young mangos.

Much more rain coming down today.  So many mangos knocked down from trees from strong winds the last few days.  :(  We can't win.  :'(

Still no rain in St Pete, no more than a trace the past few days. I've seen heavier dew.

We got pummeled by the monsoon today. Made it very difficult to get anything done. Lots of fruit on the ground of course but the crop is so strong that it shouldn’t matter too much.

Hopefully no more of it anytime soon though

I feel this sentiment; all the wind has knocked down the last of the few tiny avocados my tree had set. I'm trying to convince myself it was for the best since the tree is still small :P.

(CNN)--Fort Lauderdale experienced the rainiest day in its history Wednesday – a 1-in-1,000-year rainfall event – sparking a flash flood emergency in Broward County that has prompted emergency rescues, forced drivers to abandon cars, shuttered schools and shut down the airport through 5 a.m. Friday. And more rain is on the way.
The region recorded widespread rainfall totals of more than a foot, while Fort Lauderdale tallied 25.91 inches in a 24-hour period, according to preliminary reports from the National Weather Service office in Miami.

So the next time this happens in a few years, will it be a 2-in-1,000-year rainfall event?  On the plus side, California wildflowers are making a phenomenal spring display due to all the rainfall in that state.  (Nature is great!  We're just fucking with it a little too much.)

Near downtown Ft. Lauderdale, tons of abandoned/flooded cars in the roads. I'm fortunate my place is slightly elevated, but all my neighbor's homes got flooded. Really unfortunate.

For the most part, Fort Lauderdale should be fine in a day or 2 in terms of visiting and getting around. Many individuals and families will be dealing with problems for months and years to come, but things are getting back to normal in terms of infrastructure and businesses.

Yeah it'll clear up in like a day, they did a lot of work cleaning Broward Blvd today.
Just a shame with the sudden damage.

At least Saturday looks sunny!

Hard to gauge how badly a flood affects infrastructure.  I guess if they are prepared for hurricanes & storm surge a rainstorm should be less severe... but damn... two feet of rain.  An inch of rain is a lot to me.  Isn't the rule of thumb an inch of rain would be a foot of snow in winter?  Imagine 25ft of snow!
