Annona dioca
« on: July 12, 2024, 08:32:48 AM »
I don't know much about this annona, I tried looking around.
Does anyone have any information about it or better yet experience with it?

I grafted a few of these earlier this year for fun and they look healthy and unique.

I have no information to share.  We did plant some seeds last month but I didn't find much info either.  Im going to follow in hopes of learning something new.  No info from the scion provider?

I got scions from Florida 10+ years ago, grafted it on Cherimoya which worked fine. It grew to 25 gallon pot size rather quickly before I gave it to a friend in San Diego.
It overwintered fine but did not flower in my recollection.
I think there must be a tree at Fruit and Spice or in some accessible collection that probably just isn’t hand pollinated or doesn’t fruit . Fruits are reportedly good but haven’t heard of it fruiting in US.
What is your rootstock ?

I have a couple seedlings and a grafted tree on cherimoya flowering. Ive also grafted them on montana. They usually shed pollen around 10:30p here but I havent had flowers timed properly.

I have a flowering one, it has not set fruit as far as I know (may need manual pollination). I am not near the plant most of the year. It doesn't get very tall about 3ft off the ground. Thrives on neglect and no added irrigation in Florida.
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Mikesid,

You going to be selling scions again?

I have a grafted dioica on cherimoya and it has survived two SoCal winters unprotected and in the ground. I am closer to the coast than I am inland so I don’t get freezing temps. It just started to push new leaves and growth within the past month. It has flowered but no fruit yet, hoping this year could be the year it holds one 🤞🏽
