It is possible that the ilama could set fruit as there are a few online references to ilama producing fruit in California. It seems that ilama in California prefer cherimoya rootstock.

Lisa Atemoya scions of incredible genetics! Scions were originally from John Painter (that is his Lisa fruit in photo). Has yielded fruit without hand pollination here- not sure if John is hand pollinating or not. Large and delicious, vigorous. Can be grafted on atemoya, cherimoya, soursop, sugar apple rootstock, possibly others as well. Bud swell and nodes are ideal.

new- "Colombian" sugar apple scions $2 each this variety is sweeter than the Vietnamese Green variety but no as firm- its not mushy but not firm- very vigorous- parent tree is from a farm in Colombia.

I live on top of mission valley where the temps are mild.  None of my ilama are tasty or sweet.  It needs a lot of heat.  I’m bringing them to El Centro with my sugar apple to see if the desert can improve the quality of these fruits.

Mikey, I'm near Plaza Blvd off 805 up on the hill. I've given up on ilama but am currently germinating five sugar apple seeds. Are they pretty much useless here as well? I have a 40" soursop (from Vincent) that I'm growing out at the moment. It held leaves over the winter and is looking good so far.

Scions of Pinks mammoth atemoya- one of the largest annona from Australia, parent to both the Hillary White and Paxton Prolific available.. There has been a considerable amount of confusion locally about the proper identification of Pinks mammoth, with many people realizing that their Pinks mammoth was actually a Tim variety.
The Pinks mammoth fruit in my hand (see photo) was over two pounds- many others were in the three pound range. Collected at John Painter's. Very limited number available $7 each.
