Nice dwarf mulchi harvest
« on: July 07, 2023, 02:55:42 PM »
Tasty small fruit from a cute, small tree that tolerates shade. While I was harvesting some of the fruits this morning a red poison dart frog cruised through and you can see him in one of the photos.

I fixed it for you. I wasn’t sure if you had the “modify” button or not.

Very nice!  Loaded.  How long did it take for the tree to first fruit?  Was hoping I could acquire this here in Thailand, but no luck so far.

Thanks Murahilin!

I got dwarf mulchi from Jim West years ago. It’s from Ecuador although now I’m told that it occurs in Costa Rica as well!  It’s a super cute little tree that will tolerate shade. We like the sweet fruits and share them around. I think they would take about 4 years to bare on average. For a plinia that’s pretty good. I’ve been waiting about 15 years on the large mulchi and so far, nada.

Beautiful looking tree Peter! Frog is cute as well!

Is taste of the fruit purely sweet or does it have other flavor profiles as well? Put another way, does it taste similar to anything else you have tried?

Thank you.

Taste of the dwarf mulchi. The pulp is very soft and the taste to me is kind of like a pineapple that is neither acidic or super sweet.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. I am curious, has your Mulchi has flowered yet?

No, the tree looks alright except that it still has not flowered.  Mulchi has a reputation for slow and id put it there with Langsat seedlings as among the very slowest to fruit.
