Third (and second?) time's a charm -- Jackfruit seedling question
« on: September 20, 2025, 07:19:39 PM »
The resident Marsh Rabbits just love Jackfruit seedlings.

I got a Golden Monkey seed to sprout and it got chomped on. Then a second sprout and again it got chomped on. By the time the third sprout emerged, I got smart and put the container on the table.

Well, the second sprout recovered and the third is growing well. So my question is, do I let them grow together or cut back the second sprout?

Thanks!

I would put them in a bigger container and wait till they both form a few leaves and keep the most vigorous one.

Also, chicken wire is now standard practice for all young jacks here. Golden Monkey seedling are like drugs for rabbits and rodents. The rodents were actually digging them up before sprouting in some cases.

Seconding the above. You'll definitely one to chop off one but no rush though.

Thanks, Artocarpus and fruit nerd!

Artocarpus, funny enough, I do put chicken wire around whatever I put out in the yard (even if the rabbits don't want to eat it, they're certainly not beyond biting into young trunks or decapitating small plants)--was just shocked that they're coming onto the Lanai and driveway to munch on the Jackfruit seedlings. And you mentioned the seeds being dug up? I think I just learned why I haven't had much luck sprouting Jackfruit seeds lately 😬

Flip top, maybe we should be eating the tropical rabbits since they don’t want us eating tropical fruit. ;D

Figured it was just a matter of time before good ol' IreneFCK started posting Spam.

What did the post say before it was edited?

It simply said, "Thanks for information!"

IreneFCK then appears to have edited the quote they pulled from Artocarpus, adding the second paragraph, which seems to include a link to Japanese Brides? (I'm not clicking on it to find out.)

Oh, I didn't even notice the edited post about Japanese Brides. That's a smart way for the spammer to hide their links in a less noticible way. Thanks for reporting it.
