Magnifera caesia seedling trouble
« on: December 21, 2025, 10:13:44 AM »
Hi I'm looking for advice in keeping this newly received seedling alive. Was shipped to me from someone here.

I've kept it in full shade indoors for several days after receiving (65-75 F), then tried behind a shuttered window to allow some light. It seems to be getting worse. The potting mix is Gary's top pot (peat pumice perlite sand biochar). I haven't fertilized.

Maybe cold damage from transport? Or something I'm doing wrong? It's not supposed to be full sun right away to harden it off right?

Needs to be outside, with higher humidity and breeze. Keeping in shade indoors will kill it. Dappled sunlight.

Ok thanks!! Thought it needed gentler conditions to harden off. Will report in 2-3 days.

I'd recommend keeping it in partial shade...
did you repot it when you got it? They seem to be very sensitive when young.
Also, keep in mind that they are less cold tolerant than regular mangoes and will need protection when below 50 for good measure.

Yeah keeping in part shade for a few days. Est 1.5h sunlight per day. Potted when reveived. I was going to bring it indoors at night time until I figure out it's behavior.

Does your potting medium not have any clay?
Seems to me that where these trees grow naturally there’s plenty of clay in the soil.
