its Coc, not Cac.

Two totally different tastes.  Both excellent.  Both very sweet and fiberless.  Coc is a bigger fruit and ripens a bit later than Dot (Dot starts earlier but may have a longer period as this year was the first I was able to see progression and taste the Coc).

my respect for some of those who name mango cultivars has diminished, and my appetite is now lost.

but I have found a new understanding of what BSbilly has been ingesting as of late.

You assume the naming was done here in the US.  In other parts of the world where words often mean absolutely nothing of your creative imagination  ;D

I thought dot was named here in the USA? such a boring name like the end of a sentence...

you may be the one who's conjured up the wrong imagery.

why is everyone following Bobby's lead, and ditching the xoai part of the name?

the full name has a better look on paper...and will provoke less colorful imagery and minimize moderation.

I see some are living at a third grade level...expected considering the source.

Dot mango was developed and named after a Laurence Zill's wife, Dorothy.

The Coc mango was consistent in its texture, not mushy or soft....you know no matter how I respond here people will have a field day.  While I didn't weigh any of them, I would say they are least a pound, probably slightly over.

This is why Fairchild called them Cac.

Zand - only if you truly know what that word stands for  ;D ;D ;D
Or maybe Fairchild's fully aware but still thinks it's funny.

I think the problem arises when Americans butcher a perfectly good Vietnamese name, and choose to randomly drop the part that distinguishes this name.

but if you recall, I don't have a problem with words of different etymological origins that sound similar.

just when names are manipulated or abridged in certain cases like this.
