Diatomaceous earth works too cuts bodies as they move over it! Works on any soft body plant eaters :)

Graft looks good just make sure you just wrap scion with one layer of buddy tape or parafilm so buds can grow through.

My Guabiju sets fruit all my itself but oldest tree now in more shade set's little fruit where as my other younger trees in full sun set every year.

9
I save all my fruiting tree wood for my BBQ and smoker plus have used Liquidambar as good smoking wood also. Mulberry is excellent but not green wood now guava and allspice can be used green for aromatic smoke flavor.

10
Nice work indeed will be interesting what comes into being after all your hard work!

Yes, Kevin on the outside in ground bush/tree got two 'Garnet' and one 'Orange COTRG' growing well. All the potted grafts were on eugenia (uniflora (Surinam Cherry) rootstock.

Here are some pic's of graft's I did this week thanks to a member sending me some scion wood of 4-different types of COTRG. all on eugenia uniflora.

Just a update for folks all this in pot's I did last year ended up failing, but do have different named COTRG outside in ground older seedling that have multi-grafted varieties grafted to them and that has worked .

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Mango Varieties for CA Central Coast
« on: March 31, 2024, 12:20:59 PM »
Welcome to the form Charlie, I'm a friend of Jacks and CRFG member and live on Arroyo Grande Mesa I'm growing many avocado varieties, white sapote varieties -50,guava,paw paw,mulberries-8+, plum, pluots, apple-over 100 varieties, citrus-half dozen var.,medlar-3var., walnut,almond,cherimoya-20+ var. Macadamias, had mangoes at one time in Green house but all died from root rot. Have older plum and pluots espaliered for over twenty years. Also have few varieties of eugenia-Cherry of Rio Grande, Surinam Cherry, Nelita, Orange fruited eugenia, many Plinia= Jaboticaba -5 var. not fruited yet but multi-grafted paulista hoping for fruits!
If you have a warm sunny spot maybe Southern exposure next to wall could surely try a mango maybe espaliered on wall or fence worth a try. Used to be folks in local CRFG chapter that lived on slope of foothills to east of SLO that grew mangoes that were seedlings from Costco and fruited for them for many years. Jack, has been pushing the Zone in Nipomo for may, many years and is one of two who founded CRFG Central Coast Chapter he is a mentor and very knowledgeable at growing many tropical and sub-tropical fruiting trees.
Sounds like you have been busy growing many fruiting plants yourself you should check out CRFG.org -Central Coast Chapter we have monthly meetings with a Orchard at Cal Poly with hands on experience.
Also, get to know folks on Tropical Fruit Form because it's a great source for scions and cuttings of hard to find varieties ;) 8)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Cocktail Trees
« on: March 19, 2024, 12:16:28 PM »
Sorry Kevin, I had Adara for awhile on plum tree at bottom of property but it ended up dying :-[ But that is what you want to make cherries adaptable to plum I think Andy Mariani up in Morgan Hills found out about that adaptable inter stem with 'Adara'. Your trees are looking great by the way great job. ;) 8)
Kevin, you could try contacting Marta @https://reallygoodplants.com/ she not showing on her scions available this year but I bet she has it worth a try!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Cocktail Trees
« on: March 18, 2024, 07:00:51 PM »
Is anyone into making cocktail trees? I’m always short on space and always needing cross pollination for better fruit set so over the last few years I’ve gone kind of Dr Frankenstein. Here are a few:

Santa Barbara peach with: Flavor King pluot, Sweet Treat Pluerry, Flavor Grenade pluot, Santa Rosa plum, Arctic Star Nectarine, Royal Lee, Minnie Royal, Royal Crimson, Spicy Z, Snow Queen Nectarine, Tropic Snow Peach, and Cotton Candy Aprium.

Feijoa with Coolidge, Improved Coolidge, Mammoth, Nazemetz, Nikita and 5 or so NZ varieties

Sabara jaboticaba with: white, red, otto anderson phitantra, escarlate, navel, paulista, ESALQ, fruiting sabara from my older tree, grimal, Coronata 1, 2, 3, and a few others I forget now

Pitangatuba with FFF selected "Lemonhead" and "Gigante" adding on more from another collector this Saturday

Apple tree with: Bill's Red Flesh, Goodland, Orange Pippin, Akero, Irish Peach, White Winter pearmain, Pink Pearl, Winter Banana, Dorsett, Anna

Another look at the cocktail, it's just unhappy right now due to winter but it is about to explode on every single branch

Unknown plum with all the same stuff that's on the SB peach
Kevin, I don't think that the cherries you put one prunus rootstock will work without 'Adara' inter stem long term for sure that's what folks are using to graft cherries onto prunus rootstock. But cool multi tree for sure.

I have a twenty plus year old w. sapote that did something similar but was like blisters that popped, I scraped into cambium layer all around wound and let heal looks fine now except scar. Do the same with your wound scrap clean and let heal. W. sapotes are amazing healers I had bark scraped off a w. sapote one time by tree removers hauling away big trunks and scraped bark off side of w.sapote, within a year it regrew bark in that area.
