For Jackfruits, we have enjoyed Mai2 and Bangkok Lemon. Mai 1 and Mai 3 are supposed to be good as well. They are crunchy varieties and both have been heavy producers for us.

Thanks. Only looking for those two named varieties right now.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Which Mangos Are Left (Florida)?

So is cotton candy and coconut cream good producers?

Our Coconut Cream mango has been our best producer for the past two years and the fruit has ripened over a long period of time, so weíve had ripe fruit for over a month now. Only two left now. Our Cotton Candy is still too young to tell, but so far it seems like it will be a good producer.

We have 2.2 acres. We received approval (filed a schedule F on our tax return the past 5 years), but the appraiser would only give the exemption for 1 acre and it made our taxes increase significantly because we lost our homestead exemption on that acre and have a significant ďSave Our HomesĒ discount which was ported from our last property to this one. Ag exemption allows you to run agricultural business despite zoning, which is where the real benefit may come in for small parcel owners. The appraiser can also revalue your property/add things on when he does the exemption. Probably not worth it, and not sure they would approve without proof of selling a product you grow.

We have Inga vulpina grafted onto What we think is an Inga vera seedling - budwood was purchased from Oscar. Very pleased with our purchase! Fruitlovers.com

Well, that's a bummer! I bought an Excalibur Red earlier this year based on the pictures and descriptions of it being a superior variety, on this forum.
For those of you who have tasted it, how would you rate it? I would be ok with the color not matching the description as long as the flavor was good.
Flavor of ours was similar to imported jackfruit - some sweetness with mild hints of cantaloupe and banana, but musty. The texture was crunchy, but flavor makes it unworthy of grafting imo.

:D Same experience here. Except mine was from budwood that came from the mother tree. Someone must be color blind.

That is terrible. I have an Excalibur Red in the ground and I expect fruit off it in  couple of years...I have already been burned once; the Bangkok Lemon I got from   Excalibur, which I later realized was a seedling and not a grafted one, turned out to be a soft fleshed variety.  The nursery is now talking up Timor Red, but they are yet to release it.

So disappointing. Our Bangkok Lemon seems to be the real one (delicious and crunchy) but our Excalibur Red clearly isnít- the fruit doesnít have a great flavor either. Our email to Excalibur about the problem was never returned.

If the mother tree has light flavored flesh, what tree did the fruit posted years ago (which looks red/Orange) come from that state itís Excalibr Red?

Not to be a PITA but do you know what varieties of White Sapote may be present?  Specifically looking for Bonita/Supersweet.

Thanks.

I donít know. We are not personally bringing any. Wayne Clifton might be bringing some along with other vendors. I donít have a vendor list though.

Thanks.  I'll probably buy a couple trees.  Will there be any mango fruit available for sale?

Doubtful. Iíve seen White Sapotes for sale in years past, but not mangos - still early

15
Are there going to be any mangos for sale?
There should be many vendors with mango trees.

I'm really looking forward to this show! What are you most excited to bring to the show? Anything new and exciting?
Probably grafted purple passion fruit vines (these are doing great at our place and out producing the non grafted vines with no signs of crown rot so far). Also Feíi bananas, some Inga trees, a nicely branched Dream and grafted Jackfruit trees which look great right now.

I purchased mine at the Manatee Rare Fruit Councils tree sale. The next sale is May 20th at the Bradenton Area Convention Center if you donít find one before then.

We used to live in 9a. Loquats and Satsumas!!! I still drive up there each December to get some from our old neighbor. Satsumas donít do well where we live now. We also grew rabbiteye blueberries, figs, miracle fruit in a pot, raja puri bananas (on south side of house), low chill peaches and apples.

Sounds like you let them get too ripe. When eaten at the proper time, the fruit is fluffy (not mushy) and delicious.
