Mango, mangosteen, and passion fruit.

2
Large Wangoes are all gone.

3
What is the fruit typically like?

Here's a thread with some info on fruits:

https://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=47199.0

Gotta check to see which Wango varieties are available, but this will give a general idea.

Hello Fruit Friends!

Local Pickup Only, For Now.

I have a collection of wild mango and Wango seedlings that can let go of.

Wangoes are hybrids of m. Indica (mango) with wild mangoes (mango cousins, different species). These seeds are from choice selections made by Dr. Richard Campbell.

The crushed leaves of the wangoes are either citrusy or spicy. Very nice. I know some have crossed with OS. I would keep most/all of these if had the room.

100 for larger trees (m. Zeylanica, Tenom, Wangoes) These seedlings are from 2021 or 2022 fruits.

80 for medium trees (Pentandra, wild mangoes, and Wangoes) These are 1 or 2 years old.

50 for small wangoes and mempalam. These are either fast growers, or from last year.

20 for extra small mempalam.  These are from spring 2023.

Large trees are in 3 gal pots, and/or are around waist high.

PM if interested.

Also, will sell and ship some small mempalam and wango seedling trees to a select few forum members. Will post a thread soon, when I get enough free time to deal with shipping.

Hey D!

Your plants are too cheap! lol, you got some hard to find stuff, and they are always great. Will shoot you a pm later, I want to put together another order.

I was able to successfully graft Maha, so it can't be that hard.

Thanks Cookie for the grafting advice, that should help.

7
Good job with the melons! The girls look especially happy =)

No fruits set on any of the plants I grew this year. Gonna give em more attention, space, and tlc next time.

Here's some new growth on g. magnostana

Hard to say. Looks a tad different from what I know to be g. mangostana; thinner leaves. But it is small, and could be a different cultivar.

If it grows faster than extremely slow, it is probably not g. mangostana.

That appears to be a large pot for a plant that size. Mangosteen have sensitive roots, too big of a pot can be a problem. Tall and thin pots are probably best, especially when young. Tap root is where its at.

Agreed, violence is not the answer. Also, if you're gonna pick a fight, not a good idea to do it at home.

Motion activated sprinklers with strategically located security cameras can be a lot of fun.

Sorry for your losses Kevin.

Did those plants dry up, or did they die and then the pots dried up?

Gifted the water meter guy a freshly cut rollinia today. Could tell he was excited to try it. Realized that it's not only the stealing of the fruit that bothers me, but even more so the theft of the opportunity to share.

Feedback is important too. Really enjoy hearing about people's opinions of fruits they've never tried. You just don't get that sort of info from thieves.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Lemon Drop Mangosteen size?

Our 2 trees get bigger sized fruit than that, but not by much. Maybe double size on the big ones. Never seen plum sized fruits on g intermedia. That must be another garcinia.

Good points about homelessness and the needy, Drymifolia. Sharing and helping others is one of the joys of growing fruit and veggies. I like to think people taking really need it, for them or their families.

My fruit thieves drive Audis, BMW's, and Mercedes. They are the worst. Often very rude too. I asked one guy if I could help him, will not type his angry and threatening response. Sped off in his new Audi suv with angry wife in tow.

Workers in the neighborhood who snatch fruit are less irritating to me. But I still confront them, as they pick unripe fruit or take too much.

My main goal when interacting with unidentified fruit takers (UFTs), is to educate them about what it takes to grow and when the best time to pick is; and that asking is the way to go. I also give plants to people, hoping they will grow their own and share with others.

...and yes, those are NOT orange sherbets. ST is possible. If they taste citrusy, my guess would be Orange Essence.

I have lots of fruit thief stories, including a mother and child episode very similar to the OP's. Agree, many people don't realize it really is "theft" or only consider it a minor victimless crime.  Others are well aware, and do it anyway.

Don't even have a HOA, but had a complaint from a neighbor about passionvines blocking part of the sidewalk. Code Compliance threatened to fine me if they weren't cut back in about 10 days. They are cut now, and it looks like shit. Was beautiful before, with mandavilla mixed in and lots of flowers.

The person who complained leaves massive dog doo in my side yard, where they complained about the vines hanging. A much worse code violation itself.

S8 is great to have for pollination, and is a good fruit; but a bit smaller in fruit size.

Pooks like it to me, but hard to tell from just the vine.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Companion planting container fruit trees
« on: September 04, 2023, 02:28:14 PM »
I'm a total believer in companion plants, but usually do it with trees in-ground.

But, since opportunistic weeds ALWAYS pop up in potted plants, why not just plan and choose for that?

Mints and basils have worked well here, along with some peppers.

Have fun and report back, with pics! =)

Another m. zeylanica for sale, local pickup, I have 2. Got some other stuff (wangoes, mempalam, m. pentandra, etc.) that not ready to post yet, but if you do pickup, we can talk.

Orangey seeds are sprouting and popping out of the dirt with vigorous growth  =)

Thanks Raul!

My wife thinks I'm crazy; always nice to see I'm not alone. Really cool seeing how different growers use their space and what choices are made.

Special garden you have created there! Thank you for sharing with us (Mark) and for the great vid (eyeckr)!

I've seen some seedlings do such, and assume that some plants just don't have ample resistance to certain pathogens, heat, sunburn. One plant did that, among many vines we have, while others were fine. It was a seedling. Great flavor, but less resistant. It has been super hot.

Got an interesting tree that needs a new home. Ultra rare mangifera zeylanica for sale. Local pickup in South Miami area. Really good fruit, medicinal (bark too), and promising genetics for breeding programs and as rootstock. This baby gets big! One year old seedling, just lopped about 1 foot off the top.

$100

No shipping at present.

Will release a few more wild ones, and some wangoes soon. May do shipping when my schedule chills out a bit.
