Wintertime Watering in Pots???

Novice needs some advice on how to tell when 30gal and larger pots need watering in the winter???
Especially will plants like many of the annonas that loose their leaves

With my eugenias I usually water maybe once every two weeks or when the plants look a bit sad. Overwintering in my area in winter with my eugenias is normally a bad outcome. Plants just rot in mix.
