Favorite Eugenia spp.
« on: January 23, 2017, 05:03:48 PM »
I'm wondering from those of you who have grown and/or sampled various of the eugenia species, which is your favorite?

I have room for 1 or 2, but not all. Your input will help me decide.

Thanks up front.
If you can eat it, GROW IT!!

Sun,

I've read elsewhere that CORG isn't recommended for S. Florida because it's thin skin makes it more susceptible to fruit fly damage. Are you growing it now? If so, how is it working for you?

Yes, i am growing it now.. my tree has been in the ground for a couple of years now but has not fruited yet, hopefully this or next year.  It is a slow grower.
I have not heard the issue with the fruit fly but I'll take it into account.

All the eugenias I have fruited so far suffer from fruit fly. I don't think there is any you may get lucky with.

Damn birds like all my Eugenia except for pitangatuba.  Thankfully they haven't discovered the power of miracle berries.  Damn them.

CORG can suffer from a dieback disease.  It can be quite frustrating.   Problems with taking recommendations od favorites for one choosing is that tastes are very subjective.
