Which Mangos Are Left (Florida)?
« on: July 27, 2019, 02:14:22 PM »
Here we are nearing the end of July.  What do you have left on your trees?  I still have Maha Chanok and Honey Kiss although a few of each have ripened already.  Chris at Truly Tropical, Delray Beach, was selling Honey Kiss, Neelam, Beverly, and Keitt today.  A friend brought us a bag of Keitts, which she picked today.

You're growing a lot of mango trees in Winter Garden!  Does Lake Apopka and the other lakes create a beneficial (milder in winter) micro-climate?  Do you have lychee trees, too?

my trees are still very young. Second yr in ground Valencia pride gave me 2 mangos.. I went to the racoons and the other is trying to finish ripening.  I have it bagged and an hoping I get to it first. Might just pluck it and finish it on the counter. Was at Rockledge gardens Mango madness today. They had some mangos to taste and purchase. Not as many varieties as I'd have liked and the line was long ( husband was hot and out of patience) so we bought a few mangos keitt, southern blush, were marked. 3 others were not so I took a chance- 1 is big no green , yellow with a pink blush and was only one ripe enough to cut. It's fricken awesome so I'm pissed now I don't now what it is lol! I did buy 2 more trees.. a Venus and Orange Sherbert. I need an intervention!

I still have some Pina Colada and then my season is finished. Last year my PC were early and this year they are late. My Lemon Zest and Pickering held out but are finished as of say five days ago. My earliest mango was Nam Doc Mai.

This was a screwed up winter in SE Florida. It disrupted mango ripening times. I hope we get a nice cold dry winter 2019-2020.

Lots of small Sweet Tarts left, one Peach Cobbler, and one Cotton Candy (on small tree).  Oops, also a couple Spirit of 76 fruits, smaller, shaded, from a later bloom.

picked the last LZ this morning (it was hidden and only saw it while giving the tree its annual haircut). We still have a dozen or so sweet tart and that's it. Couple nights ago the raccoons had a feast and took a combo of 2 dozen LZ, edgar, and sweet tart. ughh.

That is a Quentin Tarantino movie, except mangoes get offed, not people.

I was not thrilled. They must have had a raccoon orgy Sunday night. Mango carcasses and plastic strawberry clamshells everywhere. I had at least 10 LZ left on the tree and they cleared out all but 1.

We have plenty, but the plastic clamshells mostly stop them, squirrels, etc. It's really only the iguanas and raccoons that are a big issue.

Stop!  You're killing me!  And I thought I had it bad with one raccoon eating a dozen mangoes over two months.  Squirrels got about a dozen also.

I spotted some late bloomed Choc Anon miracle mango this week, just 2 panicles, they may ripen in September/October.
This is my first out of season experience with this variety.
