how to tell if Sharwil is ready to pick? does it turn black on skin on tree or stays green? I picked few times in green stage.

Just try it and see how it is. They should be plenty ripe by now, its earlier than hass. In about June its a super oil bomb. By February here they are very good better than any of the other winter fruit.

According to a chart I have, Sharwil begins ripening March and holds till December for Orange County.
