Talking to your plants
« on: December 31, 2021, 10:48:59 AM »
Do you talk to your plants?
Do you believe in that kind of nurturing?
Are you crazy? LOL.
Can you tell I’m bored for conversation?

I have been known to mumble at my plants when they are reluctant to grow properly or bloom.

I had a friend who was an excellent orchid grower and when she had a plant that would not bloom she would write 'OMY' on the plant's label, which stood for 'one more year'. Anyway, she would tell that non-blooming orchid, "I've watered you, fertilized you and repotted you, so I'm giving you one more year and if you don't bloom it's into the garbage with you!"

I suspect I picked up talking to my plants from her.

Cheers!

I have been known to threating one or two with the machete unless they fruit and they fruited the very next year :)
No kidding.

It is not crazy talking to plants, expecting them to answer you, now that is a little whacked :)

I've gone as far as whizzing my chainsaw beside my jaboticaba. It fruited the year after as well!

I used to think you were supposed to talk to your plants because they could hear your voice. Then I was told it was because you exhaled carbon dioxide, which they feed on.

Yes, I talk to them.

WoW, fliptop. You are so right. That didn’t dawn on me. Carbon Monoxide. I’ll do a little extra talking know.

You should tell them they're beautiful.  They love that.

Nothing wrong with a bit of biophilia. Even if in disparity of fruitlessness.
Many times I have thought of a fruitless tree and shortly after at the next visit there's fruit or flower on it. Many times this is also not the case, I guess I like to remember when it works :D
