Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Shine Muscat
« on: August 13, 2023, 03:31:37 PM »
Nice to see several people have been successful.  Most of my cuttings are growing but they’re all still in the community pot I rooted them in.  Need to get them into better soil and separate them.

Does anyone know if the fruit quality will still be good without using gibberellic acid.

Janet

It is grow very fast once repotted to a bigger pot.  You can see the difference from my 2 pictures.  I know some growers use gibberellic acid to made the grape seedless, other than fruit quality no info that I could found online.

Thanks Goyo626, I will go check it out next week.

I would recommend Royal Crimson instead.  It is self fertile, larger and tastes better.  In my opinion it is better than Royal Lee and Minnie Royal in all ways.  I have a large 15 for sale if you are interested.

Thanks,
Bill
Dave Wilson still recommends planting it with a second variety.  Good luck.  Cherries are awesome, says this Florida mango lover!

Thanks for the info John, I think I am going to get a Royal Lee and Royal Crimson.

Thanks Brad, I will check out the nurseries near the area next year and hope I could find them.

Hello AL the time to plant cherry trees is in winter.  They have grafted bare root trees for sale every year in January at the local nursery here.  I am sure someplace near you also sells Dave Wilson trees.

Hi Brad,

I searched around the local nursery during the spring time here, they were selling different varieties of cherry none of them had Royal Lee and Minnie Royal.

Thanks,
Al

Cut a branch and grow it in the pot.  It is very easy to root.

Had nematode issues with the roots on mine here in south Florida. Planted from seed last June and put in the ground in August. They were growing slowly through the fall/winter and hanging in there in spring, only to get very wilty and stressed with the early heat of summer.

Thanks FloridaManDan for the info.  I have 2 self-fertile varieties are flowering right and set some grapes.  Finger crossed, hope the perfect flowers can help pollinated some of the female flowers.

Cant offer much advice on fruit set for muscadine, id message the grape master "1rainman"

But all the flowers on that vine appeared female to me. Hopefully some of the 'perfect' flowers develop. good luck.

Can anyone ID the flower is female, male, or perfect?
I am thinking could be the nursery sent me the wrong one.

Thanks,
Al

I don't have mealybugs issue, but I have red spiders mites.  I spray Neem oil when it is out of control, otherwise I just cutting the leafs when I spot them.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / paulk plus muscadine not set fruit issue
« on: July 01, 2023, 07:05:54 PM »
Hi All,

Does anyone grow paulk plus muscadine?  I brought the vine from ison's nursery couple years ago.  It flowered a year after I planted it in the ground, but none of the flowers set grapes, all the them were dropped.

This year looks like same thing happens again, the flowers are blooming now, but no grapes are set.  All of the dropped..

I checked ison's nursery website, paulk is a Self-Fertile.

Does anyone know what might cause the issue it is not set berry?

Thanks,
Al

Hi K-Rimes,

Which method did you used to grafted your Garnet variety?  I brought scions from Kevin twice already, none of my graftes were success.

Thanks,
Al

Please let me know what might cause it.

Thanks,
