Brian, I hate to tell you man. That tree is not a ross sapote! It's a peruvian stink butter plant. The fruit is actually only good for extracting a solvent for grease. Lucky for you I am a mechanic and I have a real ross sapote I will gladly trade you for it....really ;) ;) ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: What Fruits Are These?

I wish you had shown a cross section. Also it is difficult for me to tell the size that said yellow one looks like a canistel.

I have those two, one is fuyu, the other is a astringent type, prolly hachia. Lately they have been slolely getting yellower(leaves), especially the fuyu. They are also getting some little brown spots/dots, mainly on the oldest leaves, both of them. I am watering every day, they dry up very fast, could this be from lach of nutrients, i am scared to fertilize them, as ive had tremendous fruit and flower drop after fertilization in the past. I gave them a green kristalon leaf spray several days ago. I think i have to repot them also, as those pots are probably way too tight on them, hence the fast drying up. I gave them some iron drench today, hopefully it helps some, planning to repot them somewhere theese days.

Ok, how did it work out?

Thanks Shot and Mike T! I was thinking they looked like Erdon Lee but the box said Litchi King.

Seanny, I’m not going to try to plant the seed because it was from China so probably irradiated but even if it wasn’t, I didn’t like the flavor so much. My daughters love Lychees but they only ate a couple and stopped. Yes they’re huge but I’m a fan of quality over quantity.

Simon
What makes you think they are iradiated? Put it in the ground and give it a try.

Had nematode issues with the roots on mine here in south Florida. Planted from seed last June and put in the ground in August. They were growing slowly through the fall/winter and hanging in there in spring, only to get very wilty and stressed with the early heat of summer.
I can never seem to get them to grow from seed. I would like to buy some cuttings from a sweet cultivar.

Off topic. I'm going to start growing mamey. The small cultivars or the very red cultivars are what I am interested in.

Probably won't happen. I think the issue is chromosomes.

Thanks FloridaManDan for the info.  I have 2 self-fertile varieties are flowering right and set some grapes.  Finger crossed, hope the perfect flowers can help pollinated some of the female flowers.

Cant offer much advice on fruit set for muscadine, id message the grape master "1rainman"

But all the flowers on that vine appeared female to me. Hopefully some of the 'perfect' flowers develop. good luck.

I thought all grapes were self fertile. I have several vines so I never considered that having a different variety would help. I learn something new on thei forum every day.

If my NZ Lemonade from four Winds doesn't make it, I am going to order a new one from Madison, for sure. I just wish Madison also had the Yosemite Gold in stock too. I'm hoping to score a few cold hardy trees from Mckenzie Farm this fall that I can plant outside - I'll close to running out of room in my grow tent for this coming winter  ;D
I have bought from McKenzie. I am not saying do not buy from McKenzie. I don't know hat he has at this point that you can't get online.

Reliant Systemic Fungicide (Agri-Fos/Garden Phos) is what I use. I only have one mango tree now. If I get back into container mangos I will use it. I use it on stone fruit, apples, pears, and quince. I  also use copper. Systemics work for me. I feel the same way about pest management. If you're under pressure or have gotten out of control use it as long as you need it then leave it alone. Use as many natural crop management techniques as you can but use the help that is available when you need it.

I saw a listing on Amazon, of all places, a while back for a silver or silber cultivar that's supposed to be self pollinating.
That's the guy. He calls his business something bit I can't remember it.

I have heard that there were sweet kei apples. I have been searching for one for years.  I bought some plants from that have never flowered so I can't tell. There is supposed to be a guy who only let's you buy by appointment just outside L.A. who has a "named" variety. If anybody really has a sweet one and want's to sell some cuttings I'm game.

45
BTW. Don't fertilize. Hit it with some water but don't try to push it with the something stronger than some compost or low nitrogen stuff. I killed the hell out a tree doing that once. Pushed  leaves then died. At least thats what I think killed it.

46
Yangmei has been grown in Japan for years. The trees are easily accessible.

47
Wow. Great report. Thanks.

My guess it is dead. I Have had some make a late start but assuming it hasn't passed the bark scratch test I would say it is dead. Ok now for crazy stuff I have seen. I have seen a dead tree come back to life after sitting in the outdoors all summer. I have seen a dead tree fail the bark scratch test and come back after a long rain. I have seen a dead tree die to the graft ad come back the grafted cultivar from some bud, or bark or tissue that survived.
