White Jade Pineapple Coming Soon, to a Nursery near you!

I am not sure that I have a magic soil mix or strict maintenance schedule to share. 

I am a cheap bastard and do not use premixed potting soils found in the big box stores or nursery supply retailer/wholesalers.  I mix up 4 parts fine pine bark mulch (Walmart 2 cubic feet for $3) with 3 parts peat moss and 1 part perlite. To this I add garden lime and a 9 month nutricote/osmicote (whatever brand the nursery supply retailer carries) at the low incorporation recommendation on the bag. The cheapest quality mix (Fafard 52) wholesale costs over $4 a cuft. My mix costs about $2 (edit to factor for inflation) but does not perform as well.  I have recently swapped out 2/3 of the peat for coco coir but time will tell if this is better.  I should probably buy a pH meter and dial my mix in to 6.5.

When I received these from Adam, they were small so I potted them in 3" pots and kept them in my 50% shaded seedling house.  When they doubled to about 4" I moved them to 6" pots and moved them to my 30% shade hoop house.  This is an important step, during this stage they were overgrown by neighboring passion fruit vines and lost for a couple months.  After rediscovery, I gave one to my mom and I let the remaining 4 grow to about 12". Then I potted them in 10" pots and moved them out to full sun.

I do not top dress with fertilizer.  My new house is too windy and it really pisses me off to see the granular fertilizer on the ground after a good wind has blown over my potted plants.  Generally, my plants are kept on the verge of starving.  When I cannot stand how needy they look anymore, I pull out the miracle grow hose sprayer (maybe every 6 weeks). 

I water the pineapples when I water all my other plants.  My seedling house and hoop house have sprinklers.  My plants out in full sun I water by hand since I have not extended the irrigation out to this area yet.  I water my pineapples at the same duration as any other potted plant in similar sized pot, filling the throat (often getting attacked by an irate frog) and then directing the water to the soil.

Have those pineapples been suffering from mood swings? and violent temper tantrums?  Looks like they're "juicers"(pun intended)!

Now that you mention it, the other day I was walking down their row with the hose and one of them jumped me and stabbed me in the leg. I guess I didn't water them fast enough. It then turned into a five minute wrestling match trying to get it calmed down and to stand up straight.

What temperature requirement for these? Can I grow them successfully here in Northern California?
Will it ever fruit?

Are the new batches still going to be tissue culture? Are they soil free or is it possible to request soil free plants?

thanks much, i will take a little credit, but the real hero is Ed Self, he gave me the original plants, from which all the tissue cultured plants are made.  I had no idea about white jade, until Ed enlightened me.

they are tissue cultured just like last time, they are started in a mix of peat and choir, so there is not really soil, but the roots are in a medium that looks like soil.
