Colored Finger Limes

Anyone know where to pick up red, pink, yellow, etc. finger lime trees in SoCal? I've only seen greens here. In Australia, there's a bunch of different varieties: http://www.daleysfruit.com.au/bushfood/fingerlime.htm

I have three different pinks. They're ok.

BJ is one up on me, I have 9. I don't think I'll get any more, they produce very heavily.

If it is grated, pot, fertilise and water like any other citrus.

The main thing is to do is to grow it in dappled or soft light. Your fingerlime will not do well in full sun.

They vary lots within the colours. A fluro green like Collette is very limey and fresh, whereas a dull green is usually a bland lime flavor with plenty of oil notes thrown in. True reds (Like the Rick's Red from Forbidden Fruits, not the Daley's version, which is more of a pink or dull red) have a better flavor with a bit of berry thrown in. Pinks are somewhere in between. the fluro greens seem best for drinks as their flavour pervades the water much more, the reds dont release much flavour into water. Reds make a heck of a garnish and are quite edible out of hand, skin and all.

I'll try to post up a few pics of the colours soon and compare the different versions going around as 'Rick's Red'. I have three from different sources and all are different. I know the living ancestor tree of this line, so I know what its supposed to look like.

Here are a few pics.

Top is of the fruit still laying around. A fe different types. The true Ricks Red is back right. Collette is the bright green fleshed one.

Second pic is of three varieties here called Ricks Red. One is sold by Daleys and only gets a faint red blush. The other was cutting grown from the mother plant but must have been mixed up and looks more like a Wauchope. The fruit on the right is from Forbidden Fruits Nursery and is the real deal. These are under ripe, so not as red as they should be. A fully ripe and red fruit is in the third pic.

Last pic should of three of the best of the different types. Collette is the black skinned bright green pulp fruit. Tasty Green is the long green skinned clear fleshed fruit. Ricks Red is the black skinned red fleshed fruit.
