Video-reviews about citrus fruits
« on: February 07, 2026, 05:43:16 PM »
I would like to keep this discussion to list some short video-reviews about citrus fruits I have been doing since the last year, because of the several reasons here following. :)
  • One of the hardest part with unknown or rare citrus varieties is that nobody knows how the fruit are. Sometimes you discover that, after a few years has passed since you planted the tree and you regret some choices, just because you had never tasted the fruit before. I believe that is a big limit in my opinion: most of us cannot grow an illimitate amount of plants and anybody would prefer not to have the major limitation of being forced to buy a plant without ever having tasted the fruit, thus having the risk of not being satisfied years later. :(
  • I will try to review even varieties that are common (to me) in italian supermarkets, trying my best to search for the exact variety name, because this is an international forum and what I find easily maybe it is not well known to others. Obviously I will give priority to varieties that I consider rare or I have never tasted before in UE, for recording purpose and to increase the knowledge of the interesting varieties. ;D
  • Citrus are incredibly different and there are a multitude of varieties, it is important to me remembering my opinions on those fruits, but I believe it could be useful not only if recorded to me, but even for other people to spread awareness or just exchange different point of views to learn. I could be biased, but I believe in big numbers: if multiple people talk about reviews or do the same, hopefully, this could be more useful and statistically averaged. :-\
  • I have been evolving the format in the videos over time and I am open to change it again (I think we all can learn more). I want not just to report my taste experience (it could be personal but I describe the more I can), but trying to give objective measures too, in order to have a kind of standardized comparison, that I think could be more useful to others. That is why recently if possible I am measuring mass, size, brix level of fruits and I describe not just the slice taste but even albedo (pith) and flavedo (rind) and juice taste because of the different uses the fruit could have. 8)

Here following the videos, most of them are short and not with too much uneeded introduction except for the variety description if I know the history about it; feel free to comment so I can learn from mistakes and provide something better over time. ;)

Very useful reviews, thank you! I don't trust descriptions of nurseries anymore, because according to them almost every citrus is "sweet" or "full of flavour". I especially enjoyed the review of the n30 Yuzu, because I was really wondering if it tastes more like a sweet yuzu or rather like a mandarin. Now I know that it's not quite what I'm looking for.
