Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: 'Rosendo Perez' sapodilla
« on: March 21, 2024, 12:47:56 AM »
Just harvested 2, larger than large, sized fruits from my 7gal tree for the first time. Got it from TopTropicals in May 2022 as a 3gal and pretty much kept it in the nursery shade till stepping up in October 2023. At the time prior to purchasing, I think only Hopkins Nursery was propagating this and then TopTropicals had it available (I think they graft their own now. Not sure). I think Rosendo Perez was someone significant in Florida horticulture in the 1900s. There is an atemoya and caimito/ star apple named in his honor. This sapodilla could be a recent release. As a collector, I just had to buy :) and investigate for myself. Will sample this evening.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: wtb temolata scions
« on: March 02, 2024, 12:47:19 AM »
The more common Temoylata is often called red gefner, red atemoya, and sometimes red israel. There is also another called “Ong” red atemoya, I think named after a nursery in CA. Supposed to be different than the one developed in Florida

Thank you

Don't know about cuttings, but here's a seedling you can purchase:

I prefer a scion rather than a seedling. Thank you

From my experience, nitida is highly recalcitrant.  Fresh seeds I cleaned with my normal disinfectant procedure and then stored on a heat mat set to 85.  I germinate in real sphagnum peat moss and inspect seeds weekly.

thank you,hapajoe
