Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / FS seedlings collection etc
« on: February 22, 2023, 12:36:15 AM »
Building a new greenhouse and materials are outrageous these days. Id really like to go as big as possible. I’m willing to sacrifice a sizeable part of my current collection for the greater good. I have many 1-3 year old seedlings and some grafted trees/airlayers that I could bundle into package deals. I can also include some nice scionwood. It’s really hard to put a value on everything as a wholesale deal. I am open to offers. It’s hard to let these plants go and it’s hard to decide what to let go, but I really need to do it. I would prefer a local pickup around Houston Tx but can ship if absolutely necessary. Please send me a PM if interested. Here is a list of some of what I could be willing to include

Jaboticaba- I have duplicates and backups for at least 50 varieties. Someone could really get a jumpstart on a nice plinia collection. If local pickup may have a handful of cocktail trees up to 25g that would be hard to let go of but not out of the question
Cambuca- 3 varieties, 1-3g
Inflata- several 2 yrs old
Eugenia’s- grumichama, pitangatuba, e.Florida, e.Repanda, victoriana, involucrata, uniflora, several others
Garcinia- LDM superior + inferior, Gamboge, bacupari
Jackfruit- orange crush seedlings
Sapodilla- several good ones seedlings + airlayers
Inga- several varieties
Abiu- several variety seedlings
Canistel- arue, TREC 2, Ross, unkowns
Annonas- a few multigrafts onto Montana I could maybe let go of
Muntingia- red + yellow
Lychee- Mauritius and maybe some others? Probably keep most
Yangmei- several varieties
Guavas- seedless Thai white, ruby supreme 1030
True rose apple
White sapote- several varieties
Bamboo- several varieties

I also have a lot of permaculture and other random edible and useful plants I could include. I know it would be a lot to try to purchase as a complete package, I really would like to do the largest lots possible though to minimize keeping track of everything. 100% of proceeds would be put back into the process, so that the cycle of life may restart again. Please let me know if anyone is interested.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Deep root trays
« on: February 19, 2023, 12:54:27 AM »
I wanted to share some various deep root space saving ideas that I’ve been playing with lately, mostly for sabara rootstocks and anything that can stay in a small space for a really long time. The process could also maybe be modified with larger diameter and taller setups for other things. I started because I had extra materials laying around. Depending on where you live, PVC can be expensive. It literally lasts decades though and only has to be purchased one time. Even thin wall pipe will get you a decade or two of plantings I think.

I take large tubs of any type and jam as many sticks of PVC as I can into it, cut to length. I could see a sizeable table being constructed and lined with plastic. It’s really easy to write on each piece with a high quality marker (Milwaukee inkzalll works best for me). For the bottoms I’ve been leaving them open set down on the bottom of the tub, but only in situation where you plan to leave them for a long time. I can also see maybe landscape fabric or shade cloth or something similar being zip tied around the bottom if you were planning on moving them sooner. Fill em with dirt and seeds. Can cover the entire top of the tub with plastic to maintain hunidity until plants outgrow it, and use shade cloth when needed. Can even put a tomato type cage or wire panel around it. I’ve got some old tanks from a boat someone gave me, but I also use 30g salt lick tubs I get from cattle ranchers. Can fit a ton of 1.5-2” sticks in there. I’ve mainly used system for rootstocks, obviously for the more rare stuff you would want to let canopy more and not fight for light. I have some some setups with pipe going up to 6” wide, 2ft+ tall. Pipe gets expensive at that size though, anything over 2” heavy wall pipe is very pricey these days. If you have access to some cheap stuff or if you know a plumber that can get you some I think it works pretty well. Would love to know if anyone has any additional input or other ideas

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Var Sabara micro scions
« on: February 15, 2023, 08:06:25 AM »
Have a bunch of extra variegated sabara micro arms left if anyone wants to give them a try. Too small to wrap would have to dome or bag. Can maybe throw in an extra decent sized arm if you’ve got something good to trade

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Full sun plantings
« on: February 08, 2022, 03:19:27 PM »
I’m planting a couple new areas in front yard, I have some protected areas that get full all day sun though. Temps can be 100F in August and September. Looking to support some under canopy plants. What are my best options for max sun tolerance and maybe some wind tolerance?
