All in all just found it just searched my history under tomato

I hope this tomato post  is received well enough
AND  no tomato throwing at me .

Hey I   arranged my hours so I can work constantly for a week, but get off a week

Anyone knows how long these fruits by these web sites take ?
I may not be Home IS why I ask -- or worry about fruit not being ripe before leaving.

I have looked around fruit web sites
Not sure who I plan to buy from, I actually could save money by just flying there,
but I was going to buy atemoya's mostly for the seeds , but also wanted to try the fruit..

I also was going to California, soon  but do not mind spending the extra cash as I want some of these seeds

I hear these grow better in buckets then Cherimoya
I would not mind Grafting over a few as well Although I see smaller Annona species in past  to graft to
I didn't notice any offered with the option of trying fruit .

Hi anyone else going out forging in the middle of No where ?
I am curious if anyone knows of good stuff to bring out doors in Fall
for going into the deep woods marking tree's for collecting Dormant Scion wood before the sap flows in  spring  ?

(I know for bears Gun or mace , but not all National state parks let you carry one I will have to look into.)

Also let me know if you have any good Geo Coaching site ?
I hope to learn from people more experienced on this to save me time!

I went forging , and marked a good Pawpaw with 4 seeds , but the route was full of Multiflora rose bush

The new Route I took a year later  was clear, but I couldn't re find
(unless I re walked old route for hours  through thorns -- and I did have machete ) even though I was near it
So I am wanting to know of good GPS's

If I am going to spend a week out there I would want to know
I had a Nice one, expensive even said altitude   but was disappointed because it did not show the town over by me
(I was just outside  Carbondale IL., but right  near Makanda IL (maybe Giant City state park)

I think it is Important if I am near a town to know even though I like surprises the GPS didn't tell me .

I also want to know if those GPS Camera 's do good in deep woods out of civilization

Hi Someone just contacted me after a Email, and said they can give me Netted pawpaw (Asimina reticulata )

I am planning on looking to cross this how to gather , and mail pollen to me

I may mail pollen to them as well.

I've heard about Pirate ship but anyone have a good guess on the cost of this

I think I will ship a standard box
24 1/2 inch lenth
10 1/2 Height
19 width

Full of heavy fruit I might ship more boxes , and I might ship some tree's
(if they are certified to ship, but who does that do you know?)

(copy/paste) Buying mamey sapote fruit here is expensive a 2 1/2 fruit (including the seed)
is like $30

Any ways I am going to Florida , and want to Ship fruit
Already have a Ticket to Miami

Last year I bought a smaller version called sapodilla (white sapote )
they can be bought hard, and ripen later
(I also wild picked some, but only ones that were going to rot on the ground since I didn’t ask permission )
(trust me they where abandoned )

I do not know the best shipping rates

I saw about shipping pawpaws
I should ship Monday I heard, but not sure if I could that early

If I can learn this

In the future
I could ship to members here maybe as well
(maybe northern apples /pears / un common stuff ( forged curiosities) etc.)

If I get interest I will Oh could also ship slow if it makes since
Some fruit can be held for a few days (sapodilla or maybe a week )

I do not think sapodilla is as good as mamey but I can buy those cheap
not sure yet about mamey are they pricy down there (I saw a street vender with them, but was in a hurry/)

Actually winging this trip (I booked for New Orleans, but had problems with booking agent.)Oh I have a lot of talents , but shipping isn’t one of them
Guess I will have to learn eventually

Already wrote in a unrelated post so started a new thread

I have memorized the Asimina species in Alphabetical order  (excluding a few hybrids)
(note if you write a list you can see a pattern (I'll explain below)
I can give a link or two right now but have many more.
(ALSO NOTE While googling these some miss identification I was surprised the ID was bad on some pictures )

(edit missplessed it augustifolia when it's angustifolia thanks Nate the great)

#1 Asimina   angustifolia Slim Leaf pawpaw
#2 A. incarnata woolly pawpaw
#3 A. longifolia long leaf pawpaw
#4  A. manasota Manasota pawpaw (new Discovery after 2000 Delanly Manasota Park FL. pan handle area)
#5  A. x nashii HYBRID
#6  A. obovata  Big Flower pawpaw
#7  A. parviflora Small Flower pawpaw (See NOTE ASIMINA triloba)
#8   A. Pygmea Dwarf pawpaw
#9  A. recticulata Netted pawpaw
#10 A. Rugelii pawpaw (rugellii pawpaw (named after famous botanist (SYN was A Deeringothamnus See other )
#11 A. spatulata (spoon leaf pawpaw (like spatula you use to cook flip pancakes etc.)
#12 A. tetramera four petal pawpaw
 #13  A. Triloba common pawpaw

Asimina triloba is by creeks
asimina parviflora (small flower pawpaw) is up land or hill (dry area
Asimina piedmontana is a hybrid (named of Piedmont South Carolina./)

Deeringothmnus pulchellus  (beautiful pawpaw way south ) (A. rugelli SYNONM Deeringothmnus rugelli )

I may need a nap  I missed some hybrid names it has been a while
Asimina x Nashii is a hybrid
Asimina x oborectulata (see A. obovata A. rectulata )

Asimina Piedmontana (repeat about it Asimina triloba x A. parviflora )

Missed a couple hybrids
(one hybrid I am not sure of is with the name A x colorata  etc.
I forget the others for now, but will post a link

As for how to remember a pattern
#1  Slim paw
#2 woolly paw
#3 longleaf paw
#4 Manasota paw
#5 big flower paw (A. obovata)
#6  small flower paw (A. parviflora )
#7  Dwarf paw (A. pygmea)

See the pattern in Alphabetical order (by Genus as well Latin names all ends similar )as in folia or  ata

Hi these are to expensive to experiment, but I was afraid someone was gonna put one I bought in fridge
so I hid, and forgot it well the skin got loose it was like gel, but was surprised it was the best I ever tasted ..

Usually I just think of it as tasting like Pumpkin pie, and mostly buy for the seed (a fruit can cost $30)
I actually left in fridge , and savored it for over a month eating tiny tastes (really did)
and it was deep red,  and didn't go bad
kind a crap lee covered in foil, on a plate  , but never molded.

is it Normal to Let the skin shrivel some so it gives way a bit, and fruit feels like a water balloon.
It did NOT taste fermented just a rich flavor

I changed the Title a bit
(opinion should I just EDIT IN
what I initially was going to call it
(Endangered Fruit Species Part part 3)

Also have more to add about a Dam being built in China,
and newly discovered plants thought extinct being preserved before dam is built.
(but no link  sorry it's only on paper I tried, buit wrote down after  seeing it on China TV.)

In 1898, the U.S. Department of Agriculture created a special department of men called Agriculture Explorers to travel the globe searching for new food crops to bring back for farmers to grow in the U.S.

"These agricultural explorers were kind of like the Indiana Joneses of the plant world," says Sarah Seekatz, a California historian who grew up in the Coachella Valley, the date capital of the U.S.

These men introduced the country to exotic specimens like the mango, the avocado and new varieties of sweet, juicy oranges. But of all the exotic fruits brought, the story of the biblical date — and its marketing, cultivation and pollination — remains one of the most romantic of all.

David Fairchild, a botantist who helped found the Agricultural Explorer program, was one of the first to travel to Baghdad to investigate dates.

"He chose Baghdad," says Seekatz, "in part, because he remembered One Thousand and One Arabian Nights, and ... stories of Aladdin, Sinbad the Sailor and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. The book was a well-known childhood tradition for generations of Americans."

I have always enjoyed reading these

Hi anything worth checking out ANY FRUITS in season ? (will be there anyways__)

Any other places  in homestead or Miami to see

I also enjoy tree's with other uses like tea's do they sell anything like that
I know your suppose to pick the fruit if fallen so I doubt if a tree has a use for tea of the leaves you couldn't pick that.

Is it big enough to not see all the tree's in one day I may go twice what's your opinion

I may  take photos but my camera I brought wit me  is not the best.

I could call but do you think I could leave my bag at the gate it is heavy , and I not sure if I want the same motel or stay extra in homestead.
I will call but anyone done that before?

What is your thoughts Opinions
https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/how-does-fruit-breeding-work

"UF/IFAS’s breeding program
founded in the 1940s with the goal of developing varieties that could produce fruit in warmer environments. Most blueberry bushes thrive in northern climates with chilly winters, so creating new Florida-friendly, low-chill varieties requires crossing them with native Southern relatives of the bush"

Quote
“For some reason, one of these plants was making skatole, the molecule that gives poop its distinctive aroma, and putrescine,” she says, “which is a big part of what makes the characteristic petrifying flesh smell.”

I looked Skatole up, and in small amounts I suppose Some things have it that smell nice like Jasmine.

In may I bought 40 pounds to make  candied ginger in may
It was from China shipped to a Mexican grocery  store was cheaper in bulk after I asked

I never noticed any tinge of red , and cannot find anything online IS this normal to have a like dye on roots?
IS this something they spray to prevent it from sprouting while shipping

actually eating some now, and wanted to ask this for some time
should I just buy organic or is this Normal in the genetics or a safe chemical they spray on it to prevent ethylene build up or something.

I have the shipping box if that matters .

-- I know I know A closet , but My friend I have been traveling with He is into plants a lot
I think buying some citrus or something He could put in his living room could be good
Could be by the windows, but I am looking for idea's when at night what could block the grow lights .

Could it be like a book shelf with a blanket over it ..

I am hoping some could show inspiration, and maybe I could ask, to see what he says
I feel bad but I think I need time in my life to myself
so I would like to do something he normally would not do on his own,
and have it look nice (I know he doesn't mind anyways hahaha

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Anyone seen the Persimmon Pudding web site
« on: November 01, 2020, 11:18:47 AM »
A Interesting Cake could be made if your not a fan of persimmons that are mushy
I am sure you could even buy a boxed cake, and add them to it

I have not made the cake, but used them In a smoothie, tasted like Sherbert ice cream
and vinified  a wine from them, and aged the wine as well (own recipe)
I actually liked the wine I made with the spend left over fruit surprisingly

It was not much but even though it lacked flavor I liked the subtle flavor in that wine.

I am not a huge fan of super sweet food,  but the vitamin A in this fruit makes you feel full,
and sometimes I crave it , I like how in a smoothie it cuts down the sweetness as well

Hi Was searching for A tropical grape family for someone, In the Pillipines, ( Ampelocissus (vitaceae family)
and found this today

http://www.flowersofindia.net/risearch/search.php?query=annonaceae&stpos=0&stype=AND

23
I searched the latin name Vitis (quick search)

https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/search/?query=vitis&submit_search=Go%21
(Advanced search)
https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/

the grapes of New York
the cultivation of Native Grape, and the manufacture of American Wines
The raisin Industry
II Vino undici conferenze fatte nell'inverno dell'anno 1880 (Italian)
American Grape training
 (etc.) 2 others

I did find this recently looking at something,
and like the pictures on  The Emperor's Rout, by Unknown
but have many other old resource books wrote as well
(like people that studied persimmons genectics from 100 years ago , but another site)

This eBook is for the use of anyone anywhere at no cost and with
almost no restrictions whatsoever.  You may copy it, give it away or
re-use it under the terms of the Project Gutenberg License included

LEt me know if you use it, and find what types of words are good to search
nothing came up for annonaceae ,
or the grape family vitaceae

What books or web sites could one read to learn about how to spot recessive genes in new hybrids
genes in general back crossing .

I understand some of it, but it isn't From learning A guide A to Z that is what I am looking for
Sick of getting bits, and pieces here, and there.
IS there any good books I prefer books ?
as the PC is not easy on the eyes, but will gladly take web sites as well,
(and others would be interested as well down the line)

I mostly come here to read about the hybrids
seems like this board knows most about genetics
which most interest me here (recessive genes back crossing etc.)
may start to grow some just to learn
(I have grown flying dragon Pocirus trifoliate, and grocery store stuff for fun nothing special.)

I killed a lot of seeds as well by purpose when didn't want to deal with them
interesting seeing how long a bunch of lemon seeds can go without water
(or interesting seeing a Mistake (neglect vacation), and how some survive others stick in there in same pot.)

would like to learn the best organized way to take notes on that stuff as well
I should remind you this information might be used for other types of plants
(not nucellar seeds citrus etc., but am welcome to that as well as love all plants just do no have room for breeding citrus inside. )
