Tampa Bay - I would hit The Saturday morning fruit market in Pinellas park at England Brothers Park (I think that’s the name now). It use to be a Mustang FleaMarket but has since relocated close by. Bring cash, a ton of vendors with fresh/locally grown fruits and vegetables, also you can haggle with price.

Manatee viewing lots of spots along the coast around Tampa, Apollo Beach has a huge group of them but I don’t think your swimming with them.

St Pete has a really cool established  Palm tree garden / collection downtown for viewing rare palms and it’s free.

My 2 year old grafted Spanish lime from Lara Farms took our low of 36 degrees on Christmas for an hour or two with no issues.

Not much help but besides Vihn Long, Karlong, and Panchadara Kalassa, I believe Zill also grafted Cat Chu and Xoai Tuong mango trees this year that I saw.

Fruit are big so I may have snapped it off so it didn’t stress the tree, I can’t remember.

It’s probably a mid vigor tree with an upright growth habit. Nowhere near Valencia Pride or Bombay but not a dwarf either. Mine is 5 years from a 3g and is probably 9’ tall.

Taste is that classic mango flavor in a large sized fruit. I wouldnt say it’s the best “classic” tasting mango if your only considering taste but when you factor in its size, taste, appearance, productivity, and hassle free/spray free natural it’s value goes up.

I have one that was planted 5 years ago. Large good looking red fruit. Mine gets minor anthracnose but I dont spray and am really close to the coast, so maybe consider spraying if your inland. I can’t speak to how long they will hang on the tree but I’ve been picking them for 3 weeks or so.

I’m clearing up some space of extra grafted avocados I have done over the winter. Scions are from two trusted members in California.  Trees are $35 all in 3g. No shipping. Pick up in Tampa, St Pete, or Manatee county depending on the day of the week.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Finding Land in South FL
« on: May 29, 2023, 06:17:20 PM »
Yes you could find land for that price but not sure of any zone 10A/B areas. A lot of the places with the cheapest land are in the middle of nowhere Florida zones 8 & 9. Not sure if you would drive or fly down but probably not within 90 minutes of any major airports.

Your best bet for subtropical area in Florida is Pine Island, that just got crushed by Hurricane Ian. It may be 50k or so an acre so maybe you could work something out.

Everybody is moving to Florida with cash. Not sure if you were planning to pay cash or not but land loans are very hard to get from banks. Interest rates would probably by over 10 percent now. 1/4 acre is too small to get a farming loan too.

Isn’t there a large Sensation tree at Fruit & Spice? I thought I remember seeing one last time I was there during winter.

If you paid the full invoice on time  not just the deposit, they normally ship out Monday or Tuesday with email confirmation.

The road/bridge to the island is gone. Only access is by boat. No way for emergency vehicles to gain access as of today. Absolutely terrible. The few people I know that stayed and had large mango trees said they are no more. 150+ mph winds. Unsure about any forum members
