Citrus General Discussion / Re: CCPP Budwood Price Hike

Wow. That's a deal breaker. This is incredibly discouraging for the newer class of citrus hobbyists, like myself, coming up and trying to build our collections.

Beyond other members of the forum, is anyone aware of a trustworthy source of citrus budwood online (not Ebay/Etsy)?

Got my seeds FAST and in perfect condition - plus some goodies! Great communication. Will order from again  8)

Awesome collection! Definitely interested in a lot of these for the spring

A couple of questions for ya:
-Your pick(s) for flavorful/rich large tomato?
-Love the taste of habanero; which varieties would recommend based off that? Lower the heat, the better
-For both tomatoes and peppers, what are some interesting varieties with unique flavor profiles?

Thanks!

Dope, cool to see the growth difference - have you tried this on younger jabos? I'm curious how young you can go with adding an additional rootstock to these guys

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Leaf Cupping & Magnesium Question
« on: November 30, 2021, 02:19:59 PM »
Looking at the leaves I'm not sure that it is even a magnesium deficiency.  However, depending on the severity of a magnesium deficient leave the leaves affected do not regain full recoloration.

Good to know! Care to wager a guess as to what may be ailing it then?

The downward cupping can sometimes mean overwatering (or vapor pressures inconsistent with plant moisture). Plant is trying to shed moisture.

Oh interesting - this might be at play. Do you know any papers or online resources on this topic? Really appreciate the feedback

Citrus General Discussion / Leaf Cupping & Magnesium Question
« on: November 29, 2021, 02:17:00 PM »
Howdy All,

I have two questions for the group with pictures attached. Any and all comments are welcomed!

1) I have a potted yuzu that has severe cupping of its latest foliage. The leaves/plant seems very healthy otherwise and is about to start a new flush. Has anyone else dealt with this? I could not find much info on this specific downward cupping of citrus leaves elsewhere - the little I did find had people hypothesizing under watering being the issue. However I do not think that is an issue for my plant.

2) My potted NZL started showing signs of what I thought to be Mg deficiency and I threw a large pinch of MgSO4 at the base of the plant and have watered as usual for 7 days now. How quickly should I be noticing a difference in the foliage if it is indeed a Mg problem? As of yet there hasn't been noticeable change. Looking at the diagnosis resources online, boron toxicity matches the appearance of the problem but that seems quite niche for a recently potted plant (3.5 months). The plant is in a flush and otherwise seems to be putting out growth at a steady pace - to note, new leaves at top of plant are showing signs of the same chlorosis but new leaves on lower branch do not show any signs of problem.

Again, any opinions are greatly welcomed!

Thanks,
pp

Citrus General Discussion / Video: Old Italian Potted Citrus Soil Change
« on: November 15, 2021, 09:32:10 AM »
I can't seem to find the post now but I remember a thread asking about how the old Italian container citrus' were kept potted for so long. Here is a video I stumbled across that seems to show the method some of the users answered/hypothesized. I can't understand Italian but you get the jist - its very straightforward.

Side note - is that one of the Medici citrus plants? The pot appears to have their insignia

They also refer to it as a "giant grapefruit", grown out of Tuyen Quang and Hoa Binh: https://vinlove.net/2021/02/13/giant-grapefruit-10-kg-fruit-hanoi-people-scour-to-buy-for-tet/

For what its worth, my Viet colleague read over the article and when asked what variety they specifically refer to it as he said "They just called it "buoi", which is literally called Pomelo in English"

Really appreciate all that. The Sonofarm sf2000 is looking like a good purchase then. For what its worth, I found the reviews by Dr MJ Coco and Rows of Green on YouTube to be really informative and helpful

43
I personally use sonofarm panels. Newer company, but great quality stuff. Otherwise for cheap lights I use bloom plus lights. Most of the cheaper ones all work the same with similar output. I’ve been testing lights for a few years now so if anyone’s interested I can do an actual breakdown of the on brand expensive stuff vs cheap knock offs.

Yes please do! I got a ViparSpectra xs2000 a few months back and have been quite happy with it. I'm now thinking about getting another but am curious what the higher-end brands have to offer.

If anyone has these and is open to selling some twigs let me know!

Thanks,

Search the product and its SDS - it will give chemical composition. Cherry Stone chicken grit, for example, "are quartzite rock, a metamorphic form of sandstone. Crystalline silica (quartz)"

I have also been looking for this, and/or its cultivar the Outback Lime, for a bit of time now and haven't been able to find it here in the US. Very interested if anyone else knows where to source a seed/budwood!

Danke Frank!

For posterity I will be following up on this.

Looking further, I now believe it is mesophyll collapse that came about via water stress (I err on underwatering vs overwatering) or root damage/stress from transplantation. My initial inkling came from this http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/W/A-CI-WSNE-FO.001.html and I became confident in this diagnosis after reading https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC438118/pdf/plntphys00285-0149.pdf.

Mg deficiency is my second guess so I am going to throw some MgSO4 at the base for good measure.
