Hey all,

Looking for a decent-sized plant or cuttings of the Gray Ghost Organ Pipe Cactus (Stenocereus pruinosus). Would be glad to work out a trade and some $ to avoid spending an arm and a leg online.

Additionally, still on the search for the Giant Yellow Mulberry (Myrianthus arboreus), as my seeds did not germinate this summer. Seeds, seedlings, cuttings -- anything would be a great start.

Thanks!  ;D

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Durian + Salak Seedlings - South Florida
« on: January 08, 2023, 04:40:39 PM »
Hey all,

If you've traded with me before, you know I love to collect & grow, but have super-limited space to keep most plants to maturity. I'm sure many on the forum can relate.

My intention with this post is to give away the following seedlings to those in Zone 10+ (Florida) to get some of these species better established in the States. I would prefer to meet in person rather than ship. Sorry to those interested that aren't in the proper growing zone, but as my intention is to give these away, it would be throwing my time and money down the drain to send them to death.

"Rainbow" Durian aka Pelangi Durian (Durio zibethinus) - Sourced from Papua, Indonesia; seller has provided me the following information for this cultivar: It is a sweet and creamy Durian popular for its sporadic red coloration; the odor is not intense. The red coloration occurs from mixed genetics - these have naturally hybridized over time with D. graveolens. Fruit production begins between 3-5 years and peak production begins between years 7-10.
  • I currently have a total of 12 Durian seedlings. They are a few months old, and the majority survived the temps dipping into the 40s a couple of weeks ago with limited protection. True Leaves are emerging on all seedlings. With their fat taproot, these Durians need to be planted in the ground ASAP to avoid root issues. I am keeping an eye on 3 more seedlings that may or may not survive. I am providing these seedlings in groups of 3 or more.
If you are interested, I ask you meet the following conditions:
    • Are actually interested in growing these to maturity. Any intention to resell these will be met with the fury of 10,000 Suns.
    • Have adequate yard space/conditions to grow these trees to maturity. Durians like full sun, water, nutrients, etc; suggested spacing between trees is 30-50ft. Im assuming if youre interested, you know what work this will take.
    • Willing to train/prune the tree. This is a necessary step in a young Durian trees life, especially in consideration of future quality and quantity of the fruit produced.

Additionally, I have 34 Sidempuan Snakefruit (Salacca sumatrana) I am looking to give away for the same reason. Here is the information I have provided by the seller: This is a variety not widely known or cultivated outside of Padang Sidempuan, Sumatra (source). The tree itself is smaller and shorter than its popular cousin, Salacca zalacca, but is reported to have a tastier fruit. The flesh of the fruit has sporadic red coloration. This tree is an understory/shade-loving tree, good to plant in clumps under something larger you may have fruiting right now. The downside to this variety, as with most snake fruit, is there are countless spines on the tree, and atleast 1 male plant is required for pollination. Not suggested for those with young kids. First harvest generally occurs between 3-5 years.
  • I ask that you meet the same basic criteria as outlined for the Durians; of course, nutrient and growing conditions will be different. I will only be giving these out in groups of 4 or more.

I'm not looking for anything in return, but trying some of the fruit in X amount of years would be appreciated ;D I'm willing to work with people you know not on this forum as well, if they meet the criteria.

Thanks for yall's interest and if you have suggestions or advice to provide on this post, please do so. I am certainly no Durian expert.

Hey all,

I'm interested in grabbing some small plants or cuttings for a few different varieties of Honeyberry/Haskap. I'm open to different types, particularly the ones listed below. I want to see how these can tolerate growing in South FL. Odds are slim, but I like this fruit.

- Blue Banana
- Blue Sky
- Honey Bee
- Aurora
- Honey Delight
- Blue Moose
- Other early-producing, low-chill cultivars

Thanks!

Hardy Banana aka Japanese banana (Musa basjoo)

Open to purchase or trade! Thanks all.

Looking to sell or exchange a few extra Sea Grape (Coccoloba uvifera) seedlings I pulled from the ground the other day. Gorgeous fast-growing tree, edible fruit good for use in jams, winemaking, etc. Naturally hardy to Zone 9B, it can be grown in a pot and indoors/greenhouse. It is cold/frost-sensitive.
I know these are common along the coast, but wanted to offer all US buyers since these plants are stupid expensive online ($20 for a 2" seedling? $125 for a 2' plant??)

They are dioecious, I recommend keeping atleast 2-3 if you're expecting/wanting fruit to develop. Let me know if interested and what you may want to trade, thanks.

Hey all,

Looking for a decent plant or a few spare large cuttings of Peruvian Apple Cactus (Cereus repandus) near Fort Lauderdale. Would be glad to trade or purchase for a fair price. Personally don't think $25 for a couple 2" cuttings online is worth it.

Thanks!

Hi all,

With this storm passing by, thought I'd use this as an opportunity to rearrange my yard. Currently looking for seedlings or small trees of the following Pawpaw (Asimina triloba) cultivars:
- Susquehanna
- Sunflower
- Tropical Treat

Primarily looking to trade for my larger potted plants (variegated centennial kumquat, moringa, blue java banana) or other seedlings and such I have available, but open to purchasing.

Thanks!

Hey all,

Recently found a Gac at the store and made a pretty good pesto from it. Have about 10 seeds leftover that appear viable, was looking to share with the forum and see if anyone has some interesting seeds to trade. This plant does best in USDA zone 9+ and needs a lot of space for vining, I see people make awesome trellises with this, which unfortunately I do not have the space for.

Hi all,

Updated post since I got the fig cuttings I needed.

Got a little project going, was hoping to see if any forum members had African Peach (Nauclea latifolia) seeds or cuttings before I go with etsy sellers.

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Any known online or South Florida stores or homegrowers that offer fresh Durian? I would love to try one not frozen, but paying an arm and a leg for MiamiFruit isn't in the cards right now. Would appreciate any direction thanks!

Hey forum fam,

Call it impatience, but I'm not having great luck getting my cali pepper tree seeds germinating. I read this tree propogates very well from cuttings, as such, I am looking to purchase a good few to ship to Ft. Lauderdale. Anyone with connections in FL with this plant would be great too. Help me out southwest gardeners!

Open to trades too if you're looking for some tropicals. Let me know, thanks!

Hey everyone,

Last mango seeds I have left for this season! Let me know if you're interested. As the subject states, I have: 2 Sweet Tart (polyembryonic), 1 Valencia Pride (mono), and 1 Pickering (mono). Can make a great new variety or potential rootstock. Sweet Tart and VP were certainly some of my favorites this season. I can also throw in a couple of Australian Finger Lime (mixed colors) seeds I just received from Australia as well, if interested.

Asking a total of $17.45 (USPS Priority Box + $8 for seeds). Thanks!

Hello everyone,

I have 70 fresh Longan (Dimocarpus longan) seeds that were just harvested from the fruit. Based on multiple characteristics of the fruit and seed, it is my understanding that this is the Kohala cultivar.
Kohala Longan, originally produced in Hawaii, is now grown as 99% of the Florida Longan crop as of 2019 per the UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. It is juicy, sweet, and produces a very good quality fruit. It is popular with Florida homeowners for the quantity and quality of fruit it bears.

My first test batch germinated at 94.3% (33 out of 35) after just a few days; there is potential for all seeds to germinate.
I am asking for a total of $40.00 (includes shipping!) for all 70 seeds. Seeds have been well cleaned and can be shipped "dormant" or I can begin the germination process. Contact me with questions, get 'em while they're fresh!!  ;D

CAC - 1
Springfels - 1
Lemon Zest - 1
Pickering -  3

Thanks,

Hi all,

I have a young Choquette Avocado Tree purchased from Home Depot last month. Unfortunately, it is not thriving in my yard as I have very limited shade, but it's nowhere close to dead. I am not looking to purchase any shade cloth as I would like to clear the space for some incoming banana plants. Originally purchased for $60 but I am unable to return it, hoping to at least get $15-20 bucks to recoup some of the loss. Let me know if you're interested or would like a picture. It is about 5.5ft tall and originally came in a 7Gal, one of the best producers in Florida.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi all!

I've got 6 Lemon Zest mango seeds available, harvested from fresh local mangoes I picked up this morning. Let me know if you're interested in purchasing them + shipping, open to offers, or trade. I've taken them out of the husk and have them germinating. I still have around 6-7 Pickering Mango seeds germinating as well, if interested.

Thanks,
Dan

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fresh Mangosteen near Fort Lauderdale?
« on: July 23, 2022, 07:44:02 PM »
Hi all,

Was curious if anybody has recent experience buying fresh Purple or Seashore Mangosteen in or near Fort Lauderdale? Every store I call either doesn't have them in stock or doesn't pick up. I've tried a ton of local markets, stores, and farmers markets, and nothing! The only place I found purple ones was at Sprouts Farmers Market and all the ones I purchased were rotten and moldy inside. Broke my heart.

Would definitely appreciate some direction on this. Willing to purchase from a home grower too, but cant justify the $120 boxes from MiamiFruit. Thanks!!

Hi all,

I am looking for Japanese Yuzu (C. junos) to start from scratch, either with cuttings or seeds. I would appreciate if someone has a fruit for sale as well, as its been so long since I've had one. Please let me know what you've got and I'd be glad to pay or trade for it! Trying to avoid paying an arm and a leg for the online options, if possible.

I am specifically seeking the Japanese Yuzu (C. junos) variety, not the Trifoliate orange/hardy orange (Poncirus trifoliata) commonly referred to as Yuzu in the U.S. Thanks a ton! Located in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Hi all,

I'm interested in purchasing or trading for the seeds, cuttings, and most importantly, the fruit! of the two listed species:
Japanese Yuzu (C. junos)
Gummy Worm Fruit Tree (Cecropia peltata)

I would also appreciate if anybody has connections in the State of Florida that could provide them. Online prices are a bit absurd. Thanks a ton!

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Pickering Mango Seeds
« on: July 20, 2022, 09:04:59 PM »
Hi all,

I just processed some ripe Pickerings purchased from a local grower and have 7 cleaned seeds available for $25 (including shipping) or $20 if within Florida. While I love the firm fruit and coconut tones, I don't have any more space for seedlings. PM if interested, thanks. I can dehusk and bag with wet paper towels if requested.

Pink Peppercorn (Schinus molle)

Willing to pay and trade some seeds if interested! Located in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Thank you!
