Hey all!

More pawpaw seedlings here than I need. Open to trade or sale, shoot me an offer; skip the year-long cold stratification!
Will send them out bareroot.
These have long tap roots and would be best in a deep pot or in the ground, will likely be ready to graft next year. Seeds came from an unnamed variety of a private grower on the East coast, delicious fat and juicy fruit.

I would prefer to do a local trade/sale (Southeast FL), as these are great host plants for zebra swallowtail butterflies and we need to develop a zone 9+ tolerant pawpaw (my current undertaking).

Let me know!
- Dan

Thank you nattyfroootz for the offer! Website is in the bookmark bar  ;D if this trade I have going right now doesnt come through, I'll make the purchase

I appreciate everyones info. I am one of those people that finds a lot of the varieties of papaya to be pukey. I always advocate for RS Papaya though, that fella slaps.

It makes just about the best fruit bong there ever was though.

regardless of taste, now im sold! lol

Hey all!

Haven't had the best luck starting papaya relatives from seed, hoping to acquire a decent-sized cutting from a Babaco Papaya, preferably a known hermaphrodite. Let me know if you've got it and what you may be looking for in exchange, thanks!

I am aware a seller has this specific item on etsy, but im not looking to drop $60 on a cutting just yet :) seems people on the forum have a lot to say about that seller as well....

Appreciate the info Oolie, painfully slow and compact is what I was looking for in this case. They will be gifts to MIL in suburbs north of Atlanta.
With that, its on me to acquire them and transport, which is why I was hoping to get them closer to here and not have to traverse ATL nurseries for a desirable (and affordable) specimen.

Thank you Ryan! Ill let you know if I don't find anything.

I think both varieties are rare to see this far south since they're 'cold hardy', and theres just better specimens for the area. I am preparing the palm(s) to make their way to Atlanta, eventually.

Hey all,

Might be a long shot on this forum, but im looking to trade for a grown-ish (4-5+ years) Jelly Palm/Pindo Palm (Butia capitata) or Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei). My preference is the Jelly Palm!
Looking in the Southwest/South Florida area -- some available online, but the big ones are just too much to ship.

Would be glad to figure out a fair deal, maybe trade and some cash depending on the size. Thanks!

Brian,

Wish you the best of luck on finding these rarities, hopefully someone here can share.

For the Ahipa (Pachyrhizus ahipa) and Arracacha (Arracacia xanthorrhiza), Cultivariable occasionally has them in stock, I believe based on their personal harvests. Suggest signing up for their waitlists. The site has tons of great tubers and vegetables.

Gary's fruit was absolutely delicious and my seedlings from him are thriving (even though I damaged every root system).
Great opportunity for some free plants!

235
abimael777 on the forum currently has them for sale, his post is still on the first page of this thread.

Definitely an odd determination for the coroner to make, although who am I to argue? Like Janet said, do your own research, but theres plenty of evidence of the benefits of their consumption. Everything in moderation; who knows how much she consumed? what other substances and unregulated health supplements was she taking? Did alcohol or drugs play into it?
You can die from drinking water.
At least the article addresses the counterpoint from Daniel Fabricant.

Best to include some info when dropping a link like this in the forum. Theres lots of people out there who look at headlines and make assumptions off that.

Nikolas has some awesome and very healthy plants, highly recommend for yall down in South FL. Thanks Nik!

Where you located TropicalPioneers? I've got some Carica quercifolia seeds and plenty of RS Papaya seeds. Great fruit.

Appreciate the link umass but the site reviews arent convincing haha. So many people selling mislabeled bananas nowadays, probably not worth $30 from here, personally.

Lol yeah its a novelty plant for me, I read that they have nice large thorns everywhere that thorns can exist. Likely wont keep them, my Siam Jumbo mulberry fills that spot for me personally.

I read that Apache blackberry does well in zone 9 and 10, perhaps one day when I have more space.

Rainman, I think happyhana was referring to the Blackberry Jam Fruit (Rosenbergiodendron formosum - zone 10+), not blackberry as in the Rubus spp.

I personally prefer mulberry over blackberries, the trauma of brambles tearing me up is too much lol. although I am starting some mysore blue raspberry seeds from Brian Laufer, just out of curiosity.

Thank you Timbogrow for your wonderful contribution to this thread and community, I would like to present you with the Boomer of the Year award for your work on exposing the legendary and respected Hapa Joe. Good job on being a master salesman too, 24K-- that's like a billion right? Impressive. Take notes, Joe!

I couldn't imagine how undeveloped my understanding of tropical fruits would be without your negativity and complaints rampant throughout this forum.

I also can only tolerate that variety but do you know anyone who fruited a seedling already? I wonder how the offsprings will taste like.

I dont think I have the contact info of anyone who I shared plants with locally lol. But they should be fruiting within the next 3-4 months so maybe ill hear back from someone. I expect good things.

Rob good luck! Hope the variety works for ya.

Red Lady is a very good for papaya, just decent overall as fruits go.

Papaya is best eaten green as a marinated veggie, imo.

Open minded to a ripened papaya that will change my perspective, waiting on one now.

Rob, ill go to whole foods right now and get you a Royal Star papaya. Those are delicious, normally the fruit tastes like vomit to me.
I've encouraged people to try growing those cause its just a great hybrid all around, works well eaten green too.

Oaks are not native here in Australia, and not that common except in parks in cities. I am more inland and not sure I have seen any here.
Any advice as to what species are used for greening protection ?
Think the experiment was with Live Oak, anybody growing Citrus with other species ?
Spanish Cork Oak may grow here, or maybe American Oak species "Out of the South and Texas Too" ?

In my vicinity (Southeast FL), 99% of oaks I have seen are Southern Live Oak, Laurel Oak, Water Oak, and hybrids of them all. Not a recommendation for or against using any particular oak species to try and curb citrus greening. Should just choose the best one for your growing zone/climate.
Aside from that, I personally believe almost every oak species is gorgeous and should be planted for that reason alone, as long as they don't cause a nuisance. My favorites throughout the US are Post Oak, Southern Live Oak, Southern Red Oak, Swamp White Oak, and Swamp Chestnut Oak.

I replaced the citrus with a citrus mango 😆 🤣 😂.....orange sherbet. Good luck competing with that flavor sour orange.

As much as I love my yuzu and finger lime, they'd be replaced in a minute with a Lemon Zest mango if there was a dwarf version that would survive the same size pot.
