An update for the current and future growers of this species:

At this point, I think its safe to terminate my plant (the other one died on its own accord) as the health issues are too persistent. I am still leaning towards fungal issues as the ultimate reason for their weakness and demise. New soil, micronutrients, pH adjustment, etc nothing seemed to help.

Initially after a series of fungicide baths, both plants were pushing clean new growth with healthier-looking, darker leaves. Then they shed those leaves, one plant died, and the other is pushing new chlorotic leaves with brown spotting (pictured below). Overall, I think I just got unlucky with the circumstances.

This straggler is free to anyone who wants to bother before I send him to 'live on the farm up north'

I think most of these are going to be difficult to find.

Anderson Tropical's has a few V. surinamensis seeds left.

If you're working on a legitimate research project and don't want to spend too much on Inga laurina seeds, you can register with the USDA and snag some seeds from the Plant Germplasm database. Otherwise plenty of sellers online.

Forum member Lilith-vzla was selling Tetragastris panamensis seeds a few years ago, you may want to reach out to them.

Best of luck.

Wallets out, y'all!
The $10,000 Duguetia seedling is here!

https://www.etsy.com/listing/1536875292/duguetia-furfuracea-extremely-rare?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=duguetia+furfuracea&ref=sr_gallery-1-2&frs=1&cns=1&organic_search_click=1

Make sure to buy it now because there will never ever ever ever ever be another Duguetia available in the US again. I should have never given my plants to a friend, I would've been a millionaire!  /s

You could also consider Logees, a reputable seller and they usually have solid grafts. They are selling a Set of Susquehanna and Shenandoah, two great Peterson varieties.
Or see what aaronn's got cause honestly those KSU varities are fire.

56
You can preorder from Tropical Acres if you don't find anything here.

57
I agree with W., maybe a few crops in and itll taste better. Have you fertilized recently?
I don't think ice cream beans are to die for, but all the ones i've eaten are very pleasant and sweet.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Fruit tree zone 9 wet area

I'm not familiar with any good-tasting fruiting species that like their feet wet, other than Acai palm that grows naturally in swamps. You may want to consider finding a dwarf variety.

You should also consider using the pond apple as a grafting rootstock for better Annonas, especially if it is healthy and thriving.

kankan has yours ever flowered? My tree was producing fruit within the first year. Year 2 is when the quality/taste got better. They love warm temps, full sun, and some humidity.
They only sell females commercially because its considered an invasive species, when a male gets involved they spread by the hundreds. I would suggest making sure you have a female prior to purchasing additional plants.

If you want a "small" one, I heard they are relatively easy to air-layer. Would be the best bet, otherwise they grow really fast (like most pioneer species) and large.
I would offer but I sold my tree about a month ago, as it was too large.

Yeah at this time, I dont see any available online for a reasonable price or from a reputable source.

I believe forum member nattyfroootz (www.wildlandsplants.com) mentioned they would have seedlings for sale in the near future. May want to reach out.

If any forum members are willing to part ways with a cutting of their vine(s), I'm all ears!

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: WANTED: Inga seeds
« on: September 29, 2023, 09:52:55 AM »
I find it difficult to tell the difference between all the Inga species on pods alone. Although this one is maybe Inga spectabilis, jincuil, feuillei, or densiflora?
I can take a couple cuttings from my younger spectabilis and jincuil plants if interested. Pretty easy to root. I have a few Inga edulis seedlings as well.

Hey all,

Looking to trade or sell the following, preferably local (Southeast FL). I've been searching mainly for kadsura coccinea vines (or cuttings?) or seedless che plants. Thanks!

- TM Red Jackfruit in a 15-gal container - purchased last year and thought I'd keep it potted, but swapping it out with a smaller Artocarpus species. Healthy tree and grafted. Probably seen too much shade this year but likely has a nice deep taproot, perfect to get in the ground now.

65
I believe this is Heliconia latispatha, naturalized and relatively common throughout South FL. Your flower looks unique with the purple, but I think the shape of the inflorescence and size of the plant for this location matches H. latispatha.

66
Fygee, I literally just trimmed the remainder of plants to a stump and sent out cuttings, sorry! Trying to assess them as rootstock more so than producers. Very vigorous growers.

However, I may be willing to part ways with one of the stumped plants. Send me a message if interested.

67
Not getting any DMs sorry, will send you one now

68
Thanks Kaz! The fruit looks delicious. Hope this one makes the cut for you.

69
Bump! Updated some items on 9/15.

Thanks for the additional info CeeJay, interesting to see so many varied conditions and yet so many unhappy plants lol. Ill probably buy some equipment to get a better idea of my soil parameters, would be good to have on hand regardless.

Join the waitlist!

Bellamy did say he may have more seeds towards the later end of the year.

A fruit collector on BotanicSwap advertised a seedling not long ago, looks like its still available.

Thank you for the detailed information and sharing your experience and thoughts, foresight. Seems like they are definitely finicky. Will keep everything you mentioned in mind as I continue to treat my plants. I wish they achieved even half the size of the one you pictured, considering their age.

I didn't reach out to Anderson Tropicals yet (Im 95% sure these seeds came from him), but I will. just wanted to gauge the advice and experience on the forum first.

Thank you everyone and I hope to update this thread soon with good news!

73
Thanks for the pointers elouicious, will continue to try and tweak nutrients following that chart after another fungicide bath.
Just odd to me as these are two of only three plants total in my yard that have any non-insect health issues.

74
I don't recall the specifics from way back when, but likely a mix of: ~25% recycled soil/compost, ~15% perlite, ~30% sandy soil mix (cactus/palm mix), and ~30% outdoor potting soil.

75
I don't really track water parameters as my main source has been the rain down here. I try not to use city water, especially on seedlings.
Haven't tested soil in a while but it was slightly basic and a good mix of well-draining loamy soil and sandy soil mix. It's a Cerrado species so I try to mimick those conditions where I realistically can, although easier said than done.
