check out my largest grafted M. aureana....growing at my city water location...about 2yrs since grafting.
I haven't had to drench with chelated Fe at all..it's been growing just like a Sabara, except seems to want some shade...(I keep tucked between my 25 gal red jabos)

Mine are fruiting in about 60% shade, but I will move them back into 80-90% full sun when spring comes

white jaboticaba trees are starting to pick up production.

I can see how they are definitely related to the red jabo...they both have thin skin, and low tannin, and are almost ever bearing.

summer 2015 update.  Still growing slow, but still "not dead".   I've been keeping these watered with rain buckets religiously.   Never let a jaboticaba dry out and use quality water i.e. rain captured only.

Here is the 2nd white jabo that was smaller to begin with.  Both these are in shade under a huge oak tree. They get shifty partial shade/sun.  The bigger one does get direct sunlight for a few hours in the middle of the day depending on time of year.   2nd one ain't dead yet either!  (2015)...

the white jaboticabas are fruiting regularly, and seem to be keeping up the pace with the Red jaboticaba (almost)

the fruits I've grown so far are by no means large, and they have plenty of seeds...but the flavor is really unique, with essentially no acidity when they are perfectly ripe.

definitely not a tree that has much commercial potential, but is not a bad choice for dooryard growers, and collectors.

the tree is extremely beautiful, somewhat precocious, and almost everbearing....and can fruit in deep shade, or in a pot for many years.

one thing is for certain, this tree is not for people who complain about fruits being too small, or having too many seeds!

Nice to know the White Jabo is very precocious too! Thanks for report, maybe a dumb question but how do you know when White Jabo's are ripe ?  8)

sometimes there can be a slight color change (lighter shade of green, or a yellowish green), but not always...the way I can tell most of the time is by looking at the skin....when they are unripe, it looks more bumpy, less shiny...when they get ripe, the fruit will be softer when you squeeze them.

the fruit will also start to get grey/brown spots on the skin...this would normally be a sign of fermented fruit, but with the white jabo, it's an indication that the fruit is perfectly ripe.

if you eat them too early (which is easy to do), the fruit will taste somewhat bland, and barely tannic/acidic...it took me a while to learn how to harvest them at the right time...now I just wait for them to look rotten, and they taste best!

A while ago I got seeds of white jabs from a few sources in Brazil. I spread the seedlings around and only planted one which was super vigorous. While the ones I gave away were dwarfish trees producing lovely ribbed green fruit one small tree produced dark reddish fruit. Meanwhile my vigorous specimen grew large and produced large dark maroon fruit with striking similarities to phitrantha. I believe all the original seeds were from whites. Is phitrantha and white just  variations of the same thing and had the mother tree outcrossed for some of the progeny? I think so.

How does one distinguish Aureana from Phitrantha Branca?

Aureana leaves are just way bigger.
Phitrantha branca leaves are wide but not nearly as long.
Post a picture.

I live on South Merritt Island.  What freeze?  :P

The two Whites are still alive and growing, albeit very slowly.

I got one flower, no fruit, last year on the tallest one.

They seem to be semi-deciduous for me.   Currently in a drought so the leaf are droopy but I am trying to water, but minimal amounts as I'm out of captured rain water.

I was hoping to see some flowering this year (It's been ten years in the ground since the sale in 2013).  Maybe if it would start raining again.

My grafted white jabo Aureana was under 32F for 6+ hours in the 2022 Winter and
didn't have any effects. It fruited all last Spring, Summer. and Fall.
In fruits constantly and only pauses in the coldest part of Winter and
hottest part of Summer. I lost allot of trees including mangos, annonas, and
sapodillas but no jabos were effected from the freezing weather

I don’t know the exact cold hardiness of jabos but I think we deeply under estimate how tough they are.
