Mallika mango ripening

My Mallika tree is fruiting for the first time and the fruits are getting big.  I know it can be tricky to get it just right.

Please share your techniques and experience for picking the fruit for the best taste. Thanks.

They will eventually get yellow and ripen on the tree but for most tastes they will be strong. Observe a dropped mango and you will see it swelling upwards around the stem plumping up. They are good to pick then even if green and I just let sit till ripened.

Yes, they can be difficult to time.  I usually start taking one off every couple of days starting when they are full size - usually about now.  I let them ripen on the counter, which can take some time.  When they start tasting “right”, I begin harvesting them in greater number.  In my yard, they are typically optimal to be picked green around In early July.   That timing will differ slightly annually and obviously may be different in your location. 

They are not bad when let ripen on the tree- just not quite as good as those picked mature green.

When they ripen on the tree, they sometimes have a fermented taste. I have been getting fruit off my tree for the last  four years and still don't know when to pick them

Malika is my only mango tree.  I hope it fruits soon.  I hear it is a great variety

I got my hands on a few Mallika a couple years ago,  and I put them in a paper bag,  in the garage.   they were the best mangoes I had that year.

not a vigorous tree from what ive seen but the flavor is top notch.

Thank you all! What I learned is to harvest at different times and let it ripen off and on the tree, and let the taste buds talk to me. I was looking for a strong flavored mango and I think I found it.

I also have Neelam. How does it taste compared to Malika?
