Inducing flowering in Rollinia
« on: August 05, 2019, 11:04:42 AM »
Have anyone tried to induce Rollinia flowering using the same technique as for the sugar apple (pinch and strip)?

I have never seen a Rollinia that didn't make enough nice branches on its own, or that didn't make lots of flowers within 5 years or less, so I haven't had occasion.

Sugar apples flower usually at 1,5-2 years of age without any treatment.

Thanks for your responses. I have a Rollinia tree that bloomed for the first time this spring, but later aborted its two fruits. It is getting ready to bloom again. It looks like the tree can have much more leaves than it has, similar to other trees that I have seen. So, I did a little pinching and pruning to stimulate more vegetative side growth.

Hope it will respond as sugar apples do.

it takes them a few good years to get going.

a good fertilization regimen helps.

when it flowers, hand pollinate. major difference in fruit set for me since doing so.
