Fruit Id help
« on: November 05, 2019, 12:43:45 PM »

I collected the seed of this plant at the fruit park on Penang. It was collected from underneath a Fijian longan. Obviously it’s not that. To me it looks most like rose apple. Can it be anything else?
Thanks, Peter

I'm not good enough to identify it. Maybe a side picture/a couple more?

the leaves look like Syzyygium jambos, which differ from other roseapples in that they are very slender, and will flush a beautiful dark purple.

Very fast growers, I have several in beautiful 30 gallon pots and they look very nice, on the other hand same seeds planted at a friends are over 30 foot tall in <3 years.

Might want to separate now before roots get too tangled if you are planning to keep more than one.

Here’s a couple more photos. I hope this helps for anyone and/or can confirm better some previous ideas.
Thanks,
Peter

if you get enough rain, it will grow to make a quick windbreak.  Space tightly 6-8 feet apart in a single line, it is very fast growing and would make a good source of tinder or softer pole handles in 2-3 years.
