I'm in zone 10a, san diego area.  Is now the right time to graft and bud citrus yet?

You can do it now. I like temps to be in the 7ps. Im in zone 9 and my favorite time to graft and bud is April. Bark is slipping good so you can bud.....rootstock will take a cleft graft. I graft some during winter. Mild weather makes me do it.

James, I had luck grafting anytime with citrus.  Plain old cleft grafts are pretty much 100% takes.

How about when the temps are at 80s?  Is Sep-Oct a good time in CA which has temps at 80s?

I would be surprised if the  bark is normally slipping in September in CA?  Or do you intend to do a cleft graft?

Bark on pummelo seedling was slipping.

I had no good luck with cleft.  Chip seems better for me.   But not sure about do it with temps at 90s.

My favorite grafts lately have been veneers. For some reason they just seem to take and grow quickly.  And I can slowly cut back the upper portion of the root stock.

Veneer is a good graft with a high success rate.
