Which cherimoya to keep - 3 to choose from!
« on: August 06, 2020, 07:44:15 PM »
Hi guys,

I picked up a grafted Pierce, El Bump and Booth.  Of the 3, which 2 would you keep? Im going to be giving the other one away to family.  Also, Im going to be putting these 2 into the same hole.  They are of the same rootstock so they shouldn't compete too much underground.

I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Thanks,

Sean

Really only you after tasting all 3 can make that call. I suspect Booth would be the loser for most people but all three are good. Booth is less sweet, has a less intense flavor and more seeds.

Pierce and El Bumpo consistently rank every year in the top 3 for the categories of texture, flavor, and overall in the South Coast Research and Extension Center Cherimoya testing done in Irvine, CA. Although I have yet to taste a Booth Cherimoya, my votes are for you to keep the Pierce and El Bumpo based on personal experience and the positive impressions my friends have had after eating a Pierce or El Bumpo.

Maybe graft a booth scion onto one of the two trees and try it later down the line? Hope this helps.
