Santa Anas Blow
« on: October 30, 2020, 10:43:10 PM »
They snapped a couple mango trees off below the graft.  And knocked over this big red banana that was starting to fruit.

Its supposed to come again this weekend.

Before

After

Mango trees are falling over now too.  They were looking so good then got hammered.

It’s been a super windy fall.  But the weather has been amazing.  I kinda love my offshore winds.  I had to use a ratchet strap to buckle down my banana tree I have in a large container.  Not sure if it will snap or flip first.

The santa ana stike again.  Toppled my fruiting AEAE and another variegated banana.

I propped them back up but its doubtful the fruit will come through.

Crap, that sucks about the mangos and especially the Aeae. I was really looking forward to sampling the Aeae. We can still get some strong winds today. Hopefully we won’t get anymore damage.

I remember my California days when the Santa Anas were a harmless, almost welcome phenomenon.  80 degrees on New Year's Day.  That sort of thing.

That sucks, santa ana winds are the worst. I rather take a light frost.
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Sad to see those nanners down.

Hope they recover. Not easy if winds keep blowing.

I took my daughter to the park this morning.  These people just put this fence in.  Not sure if its a new fad or what but its got the boards horizontal.  I see a few of these around town and just here in sight 2 of them got destroyed in the wind.

This weather makes me question why I live here.  But it seems like everywhere has their weather issues.  Hasnt rained all year and now it fire winds in december.  Lame.

Brad, how you transformed your land into a fruit grove is simply incredible. It makes me wonder why I hadn’t do the same. Hang in there!

Yep. If I move to Florida I know I'll have to deal with a hurricane sooner or later.  If you need help fixing anything let me know.

yUPS I hate the wind too  >:( It use to hit only in the fall. Now it seems to be all year around.  luckily for me no damage and fingers still crossed.  Surprisingly my sweetheart hasn't suffered any major damage the last two years.   Hopefully all the past storms had just made it stronger.

I have short trees in small lot.
Wind is not a problem here.

The heat is nice.
We might escape frost this February.

Ya but the 14% humidity is a problem...it’s not just about how strong the wind is but the lack of humidity that comes with it. My Surinam cherry was full of blossoms and they’ve all slowly been drying up and falling off as I don’t have time to constantly be watering the foliage.

My humidistat is pegged at 1% today as well as most days when its santa ana conditions out.  Its annoying getting shocked by everything I touch and having dry hands.  Im surprised my trees tolerate it as well as they do.  It does get old, this seems to be super common now like every week or 2 theres another round of it.
