Already wrote in a unrelated post so started a new thread

I have memorized the Asimina species in Alphabetical order  (excluding a few hybrids)
(note if you write a list you can see a pattern (I'll explain below)
I can give a link or two right now but have many more.
(ALSO NOTE While googling these some miss identification I was surprised the ID was bad on some pictures )

(edit missplessed it augustifolia when it's angustifolia thanks Nate the great)

#1 Asimina   angustifolia Slim Leaf pawpaw
#2 A. incarnata woolly pawpaw
#3 A. longifolia long leaf pawpaw
#4  A. manasota Manasota pawpaw (new Discovery after 2000 Delanly Manasota Park FL. pan handle area)
#5  A. x nashii HYBRID
#6  A. obovata  Big Flower pawpaw
#7  A. parviflora Small Flower pawpaw (See NOTE ASIMINA triloba)
#8   A. Pygmea Dwarf pawpaw
#9  A. recticulata Netted pawpaw
#10 A. Rugelii pawpaw (rugellii pawpaw (named after famous botanist (SYN was A Deeringothamnus See other )
#11 A. spatulata (spoon leaf pawpaw (like spatula you use to cook flip pancakes etc.)
#12 A. tetramera four petal pawpaw
 #13  A. Triloba common pawpaw

Asimina triloba is by creeks
asimina parviflora (small flower pawpaw) is up land or hill (dry area
Asimina piedmontana is a hybrid (named of Piedmont South Carolina./)

Deeringothmnus pulchellus  (beautiful pawpaw way south ) (A. rugelli SYNONM Deeringothmnus rugelli )

I may need a nap  I missed some hybrid names it has been a while
Asimina x Nashii is a hybrid
Asimina x oborectulata (see A. obovata A. rectulata )

Asimina Piedmontana (repeat about it Asimina triloba x A. parviflora )

Missed a couple hybrids
(one hybrid I am not sure of is with the name A x colorata  etc.
I forget the others for now, but will post a link

As for how to remember a pattern
#1  Slim paw
#2 woolly paw
#3 longleaf paw
#4 Manasota paw
#5 big flower paw (A. obovata)
#6  small flower paw (A. parviflora )
#7  Dwarf paw (A. pygmea)

See the pattern in Alphabetical order (by Genus as well Latin names all ends similar )as in folia or  ata

#1 is angustifolia, not august. Angust = narrow, folia = leaf. Augustifolia would be venerated-leaf pawpaw?

What's the pattern? You said the specific epithets all have similar endings? They're not all -folia or -ata, not sure what you mean. Most are just translations of the common names.

NATe the great oops misspelled  angustifolia

Nate the Great One third 1/3 end in ata
or  4 out of 12 end in ATA Incarnata, Obovata , reticulata , spatulata ,
2 out out of the remaining 8 end in Folia Angustifolia , longifolia , parviflora --> (is close)

The pattern I speak of is also how #5 Big flower is next to #6 Small Flower
How it is slim leaf separated by Wooly Leaf then Long leaf (followed by Manasota #4)
and the Letters in the Alphabetical order
A , i, L, M , O, P ,P, R, R , S, T, T
& Parviflora Small flower is by Pygmea Dwarf (both small things

At least when making a list on paper over and over these are how I memorized them
I thought it is a easy pattern once you write it a few times (with numbers assigned by each species )
(as If I forgot One I knew the list has 2 P's 2 R's 2 t's as well)

A few Flowering times for paw paws listed here with pretty pictures
if people want to collect pollen , and can find the pollen these dates .

Sometimes a catchy phrase

A IL. (Illinois) M O
but  pirate says r r
Only pp 's  and no t t 's
on my Ship
woman cause to much problems for the men on pirate ships.

Quote
King Frederick II issued a decree: «Women and pigs have no place on the ship. ... The presence of a woman on board can lead to quarrels, fights, and the inevitable loss of concentration by men of the crew. That is why the ban was supported not only by superstitious pirates but also by educated captains

okay stupid joke I should sleep.

Wondering which of the Florida pawpaw relatives taste good and are worth growing for fruit. Any recommendations?

Interesting to see that there are so many Asimina species in Florida. I do not think people, even rare fruit growers, realize there are so many. But, without also memorizing the identification keys for each species, just memorizing the Asimina species' names seems like it might not be the most useful thing for finding, collecting, and growing plants in this genus.

To be honest maybe the whole post isn't done the best sleep deprivation does that.

I also just posted quickly thinking if I do not post now I never will.

(I normally use cal photos for plant pictures here they do not have much,

you could say wolly pawpaw is easy to learn parviflora /dwarf  big flower 4 petal paw  just by the latin name though...

I can say this much about if your not sure the leaves at least for the northern pawpaw have a bell flower smell.
(people can mistake them for buckeye trees from a distance , and up close too.)

I have more links with photos
but little time now

I would say for dwarf pawpaw if taste do not swallow to see how you react.

Petersons pawpaw mentioned a guy that got sick , and threw up with other symptoms .

eat the weeds wrote about pawpaw

( I thought he said some guy really liked Big flower paw )
maybe it was steve brill (forger )
