« on: April 15, 2022, 07:51:04 PM »
I neighbor gave me this plant before moving out of state. Have no idea what is it and if I want to keep it. Thanks

That is a weed. I don’t see any reason to keep that.(looks like a weed grew in the pot)
It also looks nutrient deficient lol.

modifying post I was wrong It is Native see next post  for links

THE leaves look more like Geranium carolinianum Carolina Cranesbill

When I looked at the Clemson edu site I saw a leaf structure  called palmatisect I looked up  leaf geranium

Initially I wasn't sure, but I did some searching
I actually just searched cut leaf star (plant or star seed plant cut leaf ha ha ha )

(edit I thought it was , but was wrong  )
Cut Leaf Geranium
Geranium dissectum

While I didn't search here (just google) I just looked, and it might be a good place to look for identifying plants
(characteristics  it worked for me -- palmatisect leaf geranium )

I got to ask you gonna keep it ?

I wouldn't mind some seeds from this Native ?

I guess I could try searching city park in New Orleans ,
but I doubt  it's in the botanical garden section
I wrote on a paper all day of species , and do not remember seeing it a while ago though.

Other then just having it I have other use for it.

I thought you were asking about the tree trunk in the same pot, lol
this is wild geranium, spreads very fast, keep it if you don't mind the "natural" look that many people here call "dirty", because this plant stays nice for just maybe a month, and after this turns into legs and dies off. A short lived annual and seeds very easily, so if you allow it soon it will take over a lawn, for a couple months a year.

So that is not a Just a dead stick holding up the wobbly plant or Carolina Geranium  in the pot?

I thought the camera Angle told you how he was asking about the wild plant
If the angle was towards the tree I could see the confusion .

I suppose if it is listed native I wouldn't mind it (for now In New ORleans)
although not certain I see it is native in IL. some web sites are superficial
lacking info or completely wrong  so will look into it more.
