Sweetheart lychee new growth problem
« on: April 26, 2022, 01:17:50 PM »
Hi All,

I have a 2 year old in ground sweetheart lychee that's having some new growth problem.  Im located in southern California from the charts I see online it looks like either boron, or calcium difiency but not sure. Any gurus know what it might be exactly?

Thanks ahead of time for the input.

It was probably the 100F wind and 0% humidity we had followed by cold weather.  The plants push new growth then get hit by super hot then cold then hot.  Weather is inconsistent.  Best thing to do is use 30% shade and keep the ground well watered during the heat.

For me it’s mainly related to weak growth, for example, early Spring flushes, when the growth is weak and slow. When it warms up the tree grows much faster, the flushes are mostly fine. Mulching heavily helps lychee growth for me.

Yeah I mulch it pretty heavily.  I have a big one in the front that's more exposed to the elements then my small one but the big one doesn't have any issues.

That's why I figure it might be a nutrients issue.

It doesn’t look like a nutrient issue to me. I agree it could be from dry winds but you might also want to check for thrips or other small sucking insects.
