I have a 7'-8' pitomba and have never noticed runners
How far away from the main trunk is the runner?

The closest one was only 3in, the 2nd one was about 5in away.

Those are probably suckers coming from the main tree. It’s best to remove them as they draw energy away.

Post a photo, I am curious to see that. I have not seen root suckers from pitomba but do see them periodically from involcrata, uniflora, and especially from calycina.

My grumichama was over 12 years old when the February '21 Snow Pocalyse killed every fruit tree in my front yard.  This March I noticed small shoots cropping up in my front lawn, some about 20 ft. from where the grumi was. I dug out about a dozen, runners attached and left 1 to grow in the front.

I potted all of them up, now have about 8 that are surviving so far.  That tree was not strong enough to survive, but wanted its offspring to make it 1.5 years later.

Nature is amazing!
